I have thoroughly enjoyed learning alongside other people who are passionate about older adult care and having an opportunity to be involved in such an important program. As an online student, it can feel very isolating to not have the on-campus experiences as a traditional student has, however this program has provided me with many opportunities to connect with my peers and engage in important discussions to better understand my learning in the various courses the program offers. I was grateful to help create the Pilot Gerontological Society of America PSU Student Chapter as their Secretary this 22/23 academic year and I look forward to utilizing my learnings throughout the last three years at Portland State University in my future. The courses and internship requirement for the Graduate Gerontology Certificate allowed me to stay connected to the field of aging and I have gained new perspectives and understandings that I look forward to sharing with others in the field of aging and those that are not. Everyone is impacted by aging and by using my passion to educate and empower others to make the best decisions for themselves and their loved ones, I can help build a more just society for all."

Dani Himes, Master of Social Work & Gero Certificate
I have learned so much through the gerontology certificate, my internships at two community based organizations that serve older adults, working as a graduate assistant at the IOA (where I have gotten to be part of so many different projects!), being on a committee with OGA, founding a pilot GSA student chapter, and so much more. Can't wait for a long and meaningful career in the field of aging - starting with a job at the IOA!
