What's it Like to Host a Law Fair? We can tell you. It's great! Last week, St. John's Law hosted the Tri-State Law Fair. It was a beautiful day for law school representatives and prospective students to get together on campus while observing COVID-19 protocols. Dean Michael A. Simons was on hand to teach a mock criminal law class and introduce the students to law school learning.
Vital Conversations "This morning's discussion of exonerations, prosecutorial misconduct, and systemic injustice was important and moving. It was also wonderful to see the Moot Court Room filled with (masked and vaccinated) students," Dean Simons shared about The Long Road to Justice: People v. George Bell, et al., a panel program presented last week by the Law School's Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights, the Journal of Civil Rights and Economic Development, and the Coalition for Social Justice.
On 10/8, the St. John's Law Review will host a virtual symposium on Multiple Marginalization in the Criminal Justice System Before, During, and After Prison. The event will bring together a diverse group of legal scholars to discuss how an accused's multiple identities—including race, disability, age, gender identity, and sex—intersect with criminal charges against the individual. Register for the symposium.
Page Turners The Black Authors Book Club hosted by Professors Sheldon Evans and Cheryl Wade continues on 10/7, when author Isabel Wilkerson will discuss her book, The Warmth of Other Suns. All are welcome (even if you haven't read the book). Register today!
Fond Farewell After 20 years at St. John's Law, our beloved colleague Joanne D'Anca has retired. Godspeed to the incomparable "Dean of First Impressions." We, and anyone who's ever had the joy of being greeted and cared for by you at the Dean's Office reception desk, will miss you very much.
Instagram Makeover There's nothing like a good makeover. So, with the new school year, we decided to fully refresh the Law School's official IG page with new content and student-hosted takeovers. Come and see for yourself. You'll find us @stjohnslaw.
