Letter From the President
We are in unprecedented times. Ahmaud Arbery. Breonna Taylor. George Floyd. Just to name a few.  These senseless events over the past few months have been heartbreaking and painful. In the backdrop of a pandemic which disproportionately affects African Americans, the spotlight is cast on a longstanding history of people of color suffering systemic racism, social injustice and marked health disparities. It is the responsibility of all to right these wrongs. The health and welfare of all Tennesseans are broadly affected by the triple crisis of COVID-19, economic depression, and social unrest.

The Nashville Academy of Medicine and Medical Foundation of Nashville remain committed to equality and justice. As physicians, we reaffirm the mission of our Project Access Nashville program and fully support its work to address health care disparities in underserved communities. This is our time to make a difference. Together, we can make a difference in Nashville for our patients, our community, and our fellow physicians.

Legislative Session Updates

The Tennessee General Assembly is closing out its second week of an abbreviated summer session. NAM supports TMA's three primary issues that are under consideration by this legislature:
  1. Telemedicine - Preserve telehealth coverage and payment parity before Executive Order 15 expires on June 30, 2020, by contacting your state legislators and asking them to support HB1699 by Rep. Robin Smith. See the action alert from June 10 for more details.
  2. Balance Billing - TMA has offered a solution, championed by Sen. Bo Watson and Rep. Timothy Hill that would hold the patient harmless from a balance bill when they do everything correctly while still maintaining an even playing field between the provider and the payor.
  3. Safe Harbor and Recovery Act - We are supporting a large business coalition that has proposed the act, which would keep businesses and physicians from having to endure frivolous lawsuits when they have done everything required to protect themselves and their patrons or patients.
TMA sends legislative updates directly to NAM / TMA members on Fridays during session. If you are not receiving these updates, please contact info@nashvillemedicine.org so we can confirm your email address in the database.

Summer "Third Tuesday" Webinars

In Middle Tennessee, we have access to Tennessee’s and some of the world’s leading healthcare experts. This summer, NAM is offering Middle Tennessee physicians the opportunity to hear from some of these experts virtually. Each webinar will begin at 6 p.m., and will include one or two presenters, to allow us to discuss topics more in-depth with each one.

Nashville-area physicians received an invitation to register for the June 16 webinar via email. If you are a Nashville-area physician and did not receive the details via email on June 9
, please email info@nashvillemedicine.org so we can update your email address.
