SUMMER SAFETY RESOURCES
With commencement and summer approaching, the University of Oregon wants to emphasize the importance of staying safe. Learn how to best prepare for commencement and refresh yourself on some of the university’s top safety services.
COMMENCEMENT SAFETY AND INFORMATION
The 2024 commencement ceremony is set to celebrate our graduating Ducks on Monday, June 17. With as many as 30,000 people attending the big day, here are a few things to consider:
  • All graduating students participating in the Gra(n)d Entrance must be present at Autzen Stadium by 8:15 a.m. Anyone arriving after that time may be denied entry to the field.
  • No food or drinks will be allowed on the field. Students will be asked to dispose of or recycle any food or drinks before entering the Autzen gates to go onto the field.
  • Commencement is a substance-free event. Substances brought into the stadium will be confiscated immediately.
  • The turf at Autzen Stadium can be challenging to walk on. Be mindful of your choice of footwear and consider tennis shoes or flats.
  • Be sure to lock your car after you park and leave all valuables at home.
  • Consider donating your gown to the Student Sustainability Center this summer to make graduation more affordable and sustainable for future graduates.
  • Graduates, please explore post-graduation services and resources available to you from the University Career Center.
CRIME PREVENTION
  • The UO Police Department offers general crime prevention tips on their website.
  • Bike theft is the number one crime on campus. Always lock your bike, and register your bike for free through Project 529. Law enforcement can help return your bike if it is stolen.
  • Check out the UOPD's campus crime information to keep tabs on what's happening in the UO community. The crime log is updated daily.
  • Contact the UOPD for more information through their non-emergency line: 541-346-2919.
PERSONAL SAFETY
  • If the heat has you heading to the river to cool off, be sure to follow these water safety tips.
  • Be alert when walking at night. View the virtual Safety at Night map for the best-lit routes and approximately sixty emergency phones all over campus.
  • If you don't feel safe walking alone, the UO Police Department provides safety escorts to and from any campus location 24/7. Call 541-346-2919 to request an escort.
BASIC NEEDS RESOURCES
  • The application deadline for the UO Spring Housing Subsidy has been extended to Tuesday, June 18. The summer application will open on Monday, June 24. This subsidy can cover up to $700 of housing expenses to prevent or end a crisis in meeting your housing needs. To be eligible you must be enrolled in the term for which you apply.
  • The UO Childcare Subsidy application is open year-round. This subsidy can reimburse up to about half of childcare expenses for enrolled, qualified students.
  • The new Care-Finding Fund pilot program can reimburse up to $40 per month of costs related to finding care for a relative, such as a nanny or in-home adult care worker. It can also reimburse costs to find disability-related, at-home care for yourself.
  • The Student Food Pantry will be closed the week of June 17. It will reopen for summer on Wednesday, June 26. Summer term hours will be Wednesdays, 3:30–6:00 p.m. The pantry is located at 710 E. 17th Ave. and provides students with access to free, supplemental groceries.
ADDITIONAL NEWS
  • Requests for incomplete grades must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar prior to 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 14.
