Welcome Back Video

On behalf of the Division of Student Affairs, we would like to welcome you to the Duke community. Please see the link below to see a welcome message from Retired Gen. CQ Brown Jr., who served as the 21st Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nation's highest ranking military officer, who is joining Duke University this fall for a two-year appointment as executive-in-residence.

Fall Open House

The Duke Office of Student Veterans will be hosting an Open House on September 3rd, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This is a chance for both incoming and current students to learn more about our office, campus partners, and local partners, about the resources available to our military-affiliated community. We will also have OSV-branded t-shirts, lanyards, and travel mugs available for pickup.

Our office is located in the Crowell Building on East Campus. Our office door faces the parking lot on the east side of the building.

Opening Hail

The Office of Student Veterans is hosting an Opening Hail on Thursday, September 4th, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hi-Wire Brewing in Durham, NC. Drinks and food will be covered by OSV!

This event allows incoming and current military-affiliated students to meet and build rapport. Partners and family members are welcome to attend!

Networking Opportunities

On Thursday, September 11, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Iron Oaks in Raleigh, Veterans Bridge Home (VBH) and Raleigh Veteran Connect are hosting a student veteran-focused event to connect currently enrolled student veterans and alumni to the strong community at Raleigh Veteran Connect.  This event will be especially impactful for current students planning for their future, as there will be representatives from different companies in attendance.
Attendees will get a drink ticket and have access to some great appetizers. Attendees are encouraged to wear their school colors in some way so they can connect with other alumni in the room.
Those interested are asked to RSVP through Meetup (LINK).

Calling All Recently Separated Veterans!

We’re letting you know about the THRiVE Study being conducted by RTI International, an independent nonprofit research institute headquartered in North Carolina. The THRiVE Study is designed to teach new Veterans skills to optimize mental health during the military-to-civilian transition and ultimately help prevent Veteran suicide.

The study is open to Veterans who have separated from the military in the past 12 months and involves:
  • An initial study survey completed on your mobile device
  • Six (6) weekly, 90-minute, virtual THRiVE sessions with a small cohort of other new Veterans that is led by a Veteran facilitator
  • A second electronic survey after your last THRiVE session
  • A third and final electronic survey you complete 3 months later (then your part in the study ends)
You’ll be compensated up to $200 for completing the study surveys. There is no cost to join this study, but you’ll need access to the internet, a laptop/desktop computer or tablet with videoconferencing capabilities (to join THRiVE sessions), and a smartphone (to complete study surveys).

If you’re interested in learning more, contact the THRiVE Study team at (984) 710-1879 or thrivestudy@rti.org. Reaching out doesn’t mean that you’re committing to join the study or that you’re definitely eligible. It only means you’re interested in learning more.

Open Door Availabilty
