A Newsletter for Members of the Respite Care Providers’ Network
Join Us at the Medical Respite Pre-Conference Institute at #HCH2019
Please join us on May 22, 2019, in Washington, D.C., for a one-day Pre-Conference Institute, The Right to Recover: Medical Respite Care from the Perspective of Consumers, Providers, and Funders. As the preeminent national voice on medical respite care, the Respite Care Providers' Network (RCPN) Steering Committee has organized a full-day institute to examine current and emerging issues in the field. This year's institute will include panels, presentations, and interactive discussions of interest to clinicians, administrators, and consumers. National experts will highlight consumer engagement, integration of psychology milieu therapy, and payers' perspectives on the benefits of investing in medical respite. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about identifying outcome measures, policy implications for medical respite, and new resources available for communities as they build their medical respite programs, as well as to engage in information sharing and networking with providers from across the country. Registration for the Pre-Conference Institute and the full 2019 National Health Care for the Homeless Conference & Policy Symposium is now open!

Applications Open for Medical Respite Outcome Measures Learning Collaborative
The Council is pleased to announce a new learning collaborative to develop best practices in identifying outcome measures and data collection in medical respite care beginning in February 2019. We are now seeking medical respite/recuperative care programs interested in participating. Collaborative participants will meet via teleconference six times over the next year to develop guidelines for recommended data collection practices aimed at quality improvement. Apply by midnight PT on February 15, 2019, or contact Julia Dobbins, Project Manager, with any questions.
We are pleased to see the benefits of medical respite programs featured in recent national media coverage. Last month, news stories highlighted the National HCH Council and its members' efforts to expand medical respite care. The Rewire.News piece “Good Practice: Medical Respite Programs Offer Homeless Patients a Place to Go” detailed the importance of respite and the work of Council members at the Boston HCH Program, Yakima Neighborhood Health Services, and Circle the City. Additionally, The Seattle Times article "You're Homeless but You Have to Leave the Hospital. Where Do You Go?" highlighted the medical respite program at Edward Thomas House in Seattle, WA.
We invite you to nominate yourself, a colleague, or a program participant to join the RCPN Steering Committee for terms beginning July 1, 2019. The committee meets monthly and helps guide the work of the National HCH Council as it relates to medical respite care. In addition to monthly conference calls, committee members meet annually in person at the Council’s Leadership Summit and National HCH Conference. The Steering Committee currently has five positions open: four for administrators or clinicians and one for a consumer representative. Learn more about the RCPN and submit a nomination by February 28, 2019.
