Hockaday Highlights
I hope you and your family had a restful Thanksgiving break. After a week away from school, the girls returned excited to see their friends and work on final projects and special activities before the holiday break. As always, Hockaday is bustling with activity! I hope you enjoy learning about what has been happening in our classrooms and with our girls.
After the recent Thanksgiving production performed by the Kindergarten and Primer students, parents enjoyed seeing their daughter's art exhibited in the Susan Bower '67 Gallery. The artwork will be up through December. In lower school science, the girls are making their own snowflakes designed and printed on the 3D printers. The third grade Hockaday Brownie troop visited the Middle School Robotics team and they made robots called "scribble bots" together.
The Sixth Graders spent a whole week in Williamsburg and Washington, DC before the Thanksgiving break to see first hand what they are studying in history this year. One of our Middle School robotics teams, Saturn V Girls, participates in the Future Lego League (a STEM and robotics competition) and started their most recent project. They are trying to improve the quality of life in space by creating Scratch and Sniff Stickers in Space. They designed their own website and I encourage you to visit by clicking here.
In the Upper School, our girls enjoyed hearing from Elise Lenahan, the first female battle captain of the Army, and Kyle G. (last name withheld) US Navy Seals in their Spycraft class. The Biology class created a Public Service Announcement (PSA) raising awareness of the increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Watch it here. The Upper School Art I students are working on negative space ink drawing mapping their Candyland still-life while the Middle School Ceramics class experiments with clay. Enjoy the photos below. The Red Cross Club is hosting a blood drive at Hockaday, some of our Upper School girls recently participated in Hockaday's Poetry Out Loud Competition, and a few others are applying for an opportunity to hear Michelle Obama speak while she is in Dallas. No matter the grade level, the girls are engaged.
Whether it is during a campus tour, parent visit, financial aid information night, or our diversity and inclusion event, or perhaps at a school fair or gathering in your local community, I look forward to spending time with you and your family.
