Class Reunions—And Illumination—Coming to Fall
Oberlin is expanding annual Homecoming celebrations in the fall to accommodate cluster reunions, providing opportunities for alumni to reconnect at a time of year when campus bustles with students and activity. To add to the vibrancy of the celebrations, Illumination, a centerpiece of reunion gatherings at Oberlin and one of the college’s most beloved springtime traditions, will now be a highlight of fall reunions as well. Young Alums Gather in NYC for A Night at the 'Sco
For one night only, the 'Sco landed in New York City. On June 30, the Office of Alumni Engagement hosted "A Night at the 'Sco" at Stout NYC in Penn Station. At the gathering, 136 young alums danced the night away thanks to tunes from DJ Bridge and an acoustic set from Linda Diaz '17. Check out some photos from the event!

Mentor an Obie Over Winter Term
Internships are critical to helping students gain experience and develop professional skills. Through the Winter Term micro-internship program, coordinated by the office of Career Exploration and Development (CED), alumni, parents, and friends of Oberlin can share their expertise with students while gaining an eager, capable intern to help with a project during the month of January.
Micro-internships must be submitted no later than October 6. Internships submitted by Friday, September 8, will be featured at the Winter Term Fair.

Loyola Professor of Law Wins Prestigious Fulbright Distinguished Chair Award
In spring 2024, Justin Hughes '82 will be the Fulbright Distinguished Chair at the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland. At Hanken, he will teach international intellectual property and research the history of Nordic copyright law. Currently, Justin is the Hon. William Matthew Byrne Jr. distinguished professor of law at Loyola Marymount University and visiting professor of law at Oxford University.

English-Piano Double Major Graduates With Deepened Love of Japan
As a Princeton in Asia teaching fellow, Kenji Anderson '22 looks forward to strengthening his language skills and immersing himself in the local community of Yakage, a town in the Okayama prefecture of Japan. He'll teach English in local preschools and provide administrative support to the Yakage Town Hall.

Abhisri Nath '23 and Parker Niles '23 Are This Year's Shansi Prize Winners
Nath and Niles were selected this year as joint winners for the Shansi Prize.
The Shansi Prize recognizes the work of a graduating senior that demonstrates an exceptional understanding of an aspect of Asia and is based on the values of mutual understanding, respect, and learning.

Oberlin Reader Statue Installed at Mudd
The Reading Girl has some new company outside Mudd. On Tuesday, July 18, workers installed a new statue, the "Oberlin Reader," created by stone carver Nicholas Fairplay. Made from Indiana limestone, the piece features a pair of sneaker-clad feet poking out of a womb chair, as well as an inspirational quote: "Read to learn, read to enjoy, read to forget, read to remember, read to know others, read to find yourself." Oberlin Artist Recital Series Returns This September
For more than 140 years, Oberlin's Artist Recital Series has presented celebrated musical artists. That legacy continues with this season's lineup of brilliant performers and ensembles whose music ranges from classical to gospel to jazz to world music. The series kicks off on September 22 with a concert included in the Emerson String Quartet's farewell tour.

Sheera Talpaz to Study Poets of Israel and Palestine as Fulbright U.S. Scholar
Sheera Talpaz, an assistant professor of comparative literature and Jewish studies at Oberlin, will spend the 2023-24 academic year in Israel and Palestine as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar. Her research there will support the completion of a forthcoming book on national poets of the region.
