YCSWA’s CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING PROGRAM will be happening December 26th through January 31st! Take advantage of this FREE service by bringing your tree (free of bags, tinsel and ornaments) to the parking lot located directly across the street from the entrance of the York County Resource Recovery Center in Manchester located at 2651 Blackbridge Rd. H&H General Excavating will take the trees and recycle them into mulch.

Winter is here! In order to prepare for trash collection in inclement weather, below are several reminders from our friends at Penn Waste to help ensure that your trash will be picked up safely:

Trash Bags — Use dark colored trash bags so the hauler is able to more easily spot the garbage which needs to be collected.

Access to Your Trash & Recycling — Please make sure there is a clear, safe path to access your trash and recycling bags or bins.

Be Patient — Trash and recycling may not be collected at the usual time due to poor weather conditions. 

Children — Ask your children to play away from the streets as visibility may be impaired due to weather conditions.

Slow Down Before You Go Around —Make sure you slow down before you go around after checking for on-coming traffic and trash collectors who may be at the side of the truck.

Keep Your Eyes On the Road When Driving — Keep your eyes on the road at all times and give yourself some room between other vehicles when driving.

The disposal fee (also known as the tipping fee) for York County processible municipal solid waste at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC) for 2024 will increase to $79 per ton. The minimum fee to dispose of waste will be $20 for up to 506 pounds.

The tipping fee does not include collection costs charged by waste hauling companies hired to provide trash removal services. In most cases waste hauling companies charge customers a fee that covers YCSWA’s tipping fee, as well as costs for waste collection, hauling and curbside recycling.

Holiday Lights SHOULD NOT Be Disposed of In Your Recycling Bin!

Do you have an abundance of holiday lights that are burned out and unusable? If so, you can SIMPLY PUT THEM IN YOUR REGULAR TRASH. Holiday lights in a recycling bin will cause a problem at the recycling facility and are potentially hazardous to those working in the facility as they become wrapped around equipment and need to be manually cut off.

Holiday lights placed in your regular trash will be recycled into electricity when they are brought to the York County Resource Recover Center by your hauler. All of York County’s municipal curbside trash is combusted and turned into alternative power. Your old holiday lights recycled into electricity, who knew? Garbage is Power!
