Happy first day of classes! We hope your Fall term starts smoothly, but we wanted to make sure you know how to get help if you have a question about using Canvas.

CANVAS INSTRUCTOR GUIDES & COMMUNITY
|
Canvas provides robust documentation for using Canvas in the Canvas Instructor Guide, which is part of the Canvas Community. Within the Community, you can search not only the Guides but also answers to questions asked by other Canvas users, blogs and release notes.
|
If the answer to your question cannot be found in the Guides or Community, you can contact Canvas directly via phone or chat. To do so:
|
- Log into Canvas
- Click “Help” in the left navigation bar.
- In the Help menu, click "Get Help with Canvas" at the top, then scroll to the bottom of the pop-up window. There you will see the options for getting direct support.
|
|
|
Canvas Support is available 24/7, and a representative should typically connect with you within five minutes for phone and chat requests.
Please note: The support team at Canvas tends to experience a greater volume of support requests this time of year and thus wait times may be longer.

REMINDER: ASSIGNING ROLES TO TEACHING SUPPORT
|
If you have someone else helping teach your course - such as a teaching assistant - be sure you have assigned them to the correct role:
|
-
Teachers may create course materials, view course data, and access and manage all areas of a Canvas site. All instructors of record listed in DukeHub / DKUHub for a course are automatically added at the teacher role.
- Teacher assistants can create course materials, access and manage Canvas course materials, and engage with others enrolled in the course.
-
Designers can create course materials and build course content in most tools.
- Non-grading assistants can build and design a Canvas site but cannot view grades.

NEW: AVAILABLE CANVAS LEARNING TOOLS |
There are many external learning tools – such as Box, Wooclap, and Zoom – that integrate with Canvas to enhance the teaching and learning experience. The Canvas Learning Tools list indicates which tools are currently available, under review, and not approved to use with Canvas at Duke. Clicking on an individual tool provides information on how to use the tool in your course. If your desired tool is not listed, you may request it and our learning technologies team will review it.
