What Are We Afraid of in Teaching? |
Amber Franklin is an Associate Professor of Speech Pathology and Audiology and the recipient of the 2026 E. Phillips Knox Distinguished Teaching Award. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, including Counseling Strategies for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, a course that invites students to take risks, embrace vulnerability, and develop greater awareness of the self as a legitimate object of learning.

Submit a CTE major teaching project grant proposal ($3,000). These grants encourage curricular and pedagogical innovations that result in more engaged and improved student learning. Innovations may be at the course, department, division, and/or university levels.

The CTE offers two ways to gain this valuable insight: a midcourse consultation and a formative observation (including online courses). New and Improved Canvas Features and Tools |
- Canvas Studio: replaces Kaltura for video recording, playback, and quizzes. Now appears in the Rich Content Editor (RCE) toolbar. All Canvas users have access to Canvas Studio and all of its features.
- Note: Access to Kaltura and its content will cease on September 30th. New uploads to Kaltura have been disabled for most users since August 14th. Any content that was added to Kaltura by Admin users after September 11th will not be migrated.

IgniteAI Tools for Faculty: turned off by default; faculty choose whether to enable them in your course(s).
- IgniteAI Question Authoring: create questions in New Quizzes from course content or uploaded files.

IgniteAI Generator for Rubrics: generate editable rubrics based on the assignment name and description.
- IgniteAI Discussion Summaries: provide instructors with concise summaries of discussions to quickly grasp key points before reading each reply.

IgniteAI Search for Courses: allows students and instructors to find content using natural, "meaning-based" queries, not just exact keywords.
- IgniteAI Study Tools for Students: turned off by default; faculty choose whether to enable them in your course(s).

Tools allow students to generate summaries, flashcards, or a multiple-choice practice quiz for Canvas pages, Word Docs, PDFs, or HTML files in a course.
- Instructors cannot see which tools students use or what the AI generates.
