Ivan Allen College Faculty Receive CIOS Awards |
Many faculty members in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts received the Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Annual Course Instructor Opinion Survey (CIOS) Award for 2024. In the School of Modern Languages, Stéphanie Boulard, Antonio Cardentey, Seung-Eun Chang, Danielle Geary, Andrea Jonsson, Kathrin Köppe, Lee Hyunjeong Oh, Yumi Parks, and Satomi Suzuki-Chenoweth received the award. Lenny Stendig (Economics and Public Policy), Juliana Viezure (History and Sociology), R. Lincoln Hines (International Affairs), and Allegra Smith (Literature, Media, and Communication) also received the award.
The Center for Teaching and Learning also announced the Fall 2024 CIOS Honor Roll, which includes faculty members in the School of Modern Languages, the School of History and Sociology, and the School of Literature, Media, and Communication.

Convention Showcases Modern Languages and Literature, Media, and Communication Research |
The 2025 Modern Language Association Convention featured research by a number of Ivan Allen College faculty. Scott Caddy, Justin Chandler, Dori Coblentz, Susana Morris, Andrew Nance, Ankita Rathour, and Kelly Ritter in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication presented on topics ranging from "Poe Lives on Netflix" (Caddy) to "Teaching Palestine" (Rathour). In the School of Modern Languages, Keung Yoon Bae, Antonio Cardentey, and John Lyon gave talks on topics such as Korean gaming culture (Bae) and "Soviet Magazines in Revolutionary Cuba" (Cardentey).

| Nunn School's Kosal Joins Committee on Army's Tech Preparedness |
Margaret E. Kosal, associate professor in Georgia Tech’s Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, has been appointed to a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) committee that will look for ways to help the U.S. Army contend with emerging threats.

Fran Baumgartner, satellite counselor for IAC, will offer spring consultation hours for students, faculty, and staff during the following times and by appointment:

- Tuesdays, 8 – 10 a.m.

- Thursdays, 11 a.m. – noon (virtual only)

Consultations may be virtual or in-person (Savant 122), typically last 15 minutes, and cover specific, non-emergency student concerns or mental health resources on campus. Email Fran Baumgartner to schedule, or walk-ins welcome.

Nominations Close Jan. 24 for Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Awards |
Each spring the Ivan Allen College recognizes an extraordinary graduate student, undergraduate student, and faculty member with an Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Award. The nomination deadline is Friday, Jan. 24. Each Legacy Award recipient will receive a beautiful Frabel glass sculpture and a $1,000 stipend and will be honored at a ceremony hosted by the College on April 17. Call for Papers: The Future of the Humanities at Tech |
The chairs of the Schools of History and Sociology; Literature, Media and Communication; Modern Languages; and Public Policy invite you to a special event on the Humanities at Georgia Tech, on Friday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Tech Square Research Building Auditorium.
This event will highlight the humanities at Tech and include workshops with external experts on potential future collaborative work. The morning will feature up to sixteen 5-minute lightning-round presentations by faculty on their humanities research.
If you would like to present a 5-minute lightning talk, please submit a 300-word prospectus to John Lyon by Friday, Jan. 31. Presentations should highlight (1) major question(s) driving your research, (2) findings and (3) connection to the humanities, and be accessible to a broad audience.

Casey Wichman (Economics) was appointed an invited researcher at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Wichman is engaged with J-PAL’s “Economics of Decarbonization Working Group” and the Evidence for Climate Action Project, which seeks to generate evidence to advance equitable, high-impact policy solutions to climate change in the United States.

Milton Mueller (Public Policy) traveled to Saudi Arabia, where he served on a roundtable debating the meaning and role of “multistakeholderism” for the GigaNet Annual Symposium and hosted an Internet Governance Project workshop on “Unpacking the Future of Digital Public Infrastructure.”

|
Robert Rosenberger (Public Policy) gave a plenary talk titled “The Ethics of Mundane Artifacts” at the Theorizing Future Ethics of Technology workshop at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani in India. Rosenberger's talk explored the ethical implications of how "normal" technology usage, and our habits around such usage, becomes within our everyday lives.

These virtual workshops will provide an overview of reappointment, promotion, and tenure (RPT) processes and guidance to tenure-track faculty members, especially those who are preparing to submit their dossier for review next academic year.
