A new book by Jacqueline Jones Royster, the former dean of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, argues that generations of Black women whose words and actions have contributed substantively to the nation’s development have been persistently rendered “invisible, inaudible, and unintelligible.” Royster's scholarship was the subject of a discussion with Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera on Sept. 25.

Georgia Tech Researchers Studying National Wireless Alert Test to Improve Access |
This afternoon, every active cell phone in the U.S. will sound off as part of a rare nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alert system. Researcher Salimah LaForce of the Center for Advanced Communications Policy and others will be collecting data on the test to understand access challenges faced by people with disabilities.

Margaret E. Kosal, associate professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, has been named to the Savannah River National Laboratory's National Security Advisory Board. SRNL officials noted Kosal's "national leadership and nonproliferation expertise" as an important addition to the board.

Director of Facilities and Capital Planning Priti Bhatia was appointed to a 3-year term as vice president for education on the Southeastern Regional APPA Board. In this role, Bhatia will chair and coordinate scholarship programs, educational opportunities, and credentialing programs for facilities professionals throughout the region.
