Administrative Briefing is Wednesday, Oct. 15 |
Join university leadership for the fall Administrative Briefing on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 3:30–5 p.m. in ASRC 515 (Board Room) or via Zoom [Meeting Link]. Faculty and staff will hear high-level updates on key topics including PSU’s sanctuary campus designation and the university budget, followed by time for Q&A.
A recording of the briefing will be shared in next week's edition of Currently.

General Education Symposium is Friday, Oct. 17 |
The General Education Task Force has released the agenda for its upcoming Fall 2025 Symposium (see table below). PSU faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to join a presentation on general education research and options developed by faculty- and staff-led subcommittees. Attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback and engage in discussion on potential general education initiatives for the campus.

Research Award nominations due soon |
Nominate a colleague for one of PSU’s annual Research Awards, managed by Research & Graduate Studies. Name-only nominations (and external contacts for Presidential Award nominees) are due Monday, Oct. 27. Completed nominations are due Monday, Nov. 17, 2025.

Conference fund applications open for AAUP members |
The first round of applications are due by Saturday, Nov. 1 for the Faculty Conference Fund (FCF), which was created in the recent contract negotiations. The fund is intended to supplement resources to support members’ participation in academic and professional conferences, symposia, workshops, exhibitions, and other events related to their fields of study.

Fire drills all this week at PSU |
Annual Fire Evacuation Drills will take place in academic and administrative buildings across campus this week (Oct. 13-17) between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Drills are unannounced and occur once per year. Each will last about 10-20 minutes.
What to do:
When the fire alarm sounds and the strobe lights flash, exit the building immediately and go to your designated evacuation assembly location.
If you need help using stairs during an evacuation, make sure you are listed in the Evacuation Assistance Registry.

City tree maintenance begins this week |
Starting today (Monday, Oct. 13), the City of Portland will be performing tree maintenance work in the Park Blocks. This includes trimming branches, removing dead or hazardous limbs, and taking down trees that are unhealthy or unsafe.
For safety, sections of the Park Blocks will be roped off as crews move through campus. Work is expected to continue for several weeks.
PSU Facilities and Property Management is coordinating with Campus Events to notify groups with planned activities in the Park Blocks about any impacts.

New online form for non-emergency reports |
The PSU Campus Public Safety Office (CPSO) is excited to announce a new system for reporting non-emergency incidents: a convenient, secure online form.
This new resource is designed to provide the PSU community — including students, faculty and staff — with a simple, confidential way to report an event when there is no immediate threat to life or property.
Examples of Appropriate Non-Emergency Reports:

Vandalism (e.g., graffiti, property damage discovered after the fact)
- Minor Theft (e.g., a bike that was stolen last night, a missing laptop from a desk)
- Drug or Alcohol Incidents (e.g., suspicious activity witnessed without confrontation)

- Lost Property

Park Blocks transform into outdoor cinema - Wednesday |
This Wednesday, PSU's Cultural Resource Centers are turning the Park Blocks into an outdoor cinema! The Culture in Motion Short Film Festival is a vibrant, intentional campus experience that highlights diverse and captivating stories. Alongside the films, CRC students will be making fresh popcorn, spinning cotton candy, serving snow cones and more. With music, food, film, and hopefully even dancing, the event will have the energy and joy of a true block party.

Vikings Athletics invites faculty and academic professionals to Academic Recognition and Faculty Appreciation Night on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in Viking Pavilion, as our first-place Vikings Volleyball team takes on Eastern Washington.
This special evening celebrates the academic achievements of our student-athletes and the faculty and academic professionals who support their success.

Career Week is almost here — next week — a new quarterly series of events bringing together students, faculty, staff, and employers to highlight the many ways PSU prepares students for life after graduation.
