Embracing our Majority-BIPOC Future Symposium on May 9
Join us for a day of meaning making, priority assessment, and application as we lean into our desire to serve our changing demographics and aspiration to be the premier majority-BIPOC student institution in the Pacific Northwest. With a rich agenda featuring insightful discussions, engaging performances, and collaborative workshops, this symposium will be an inspiring day of learning and dialogue as we delve into shaping the future of our university and community.

Presidential Speaker Series: Kim Wilcox on May 9
Immediately following the symposium, please join us for the fifth and final session of the Presidential Speaker Series, featuring UC Riverside Chancellor, Dr. Kim Wilcox. A friend and mentor to PSU President Ann Cudd, Chancellor Wilcox has led UCR to become a beacon of innovation and inclusivity -- reaching new heights in research, enrollment, and graduation rates.

President Ann Cudd Investiture on May 10
Join in celebrating the investiture of PSU’s 11th president, Dr. Ann E. Cudd. Investiture is a formal ceremony marking the inauguration of a new university president. At 9 a.m., faculty, staff and students are invited to process from Urban Plaza and to Viking Pavilion, where the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. This is a ticketed event with a lunch reception to follow.

Administrative Briefing on May 15
Faculty and staff are invited to RSVP and submit questions for the upcoming Administrative Briefing on May 15 from 3 - 4:30 p.m. in ASRC Boardroom 515. The agenda will include updates from university leadership and will address questions submitted ahead of time.

Share your experiences with campus safety |
Researchers at PSU, in collaboration with Campus Public Safety (CPSO), are conducting the first annual survey to gather feedback from students, faculty, and staff about their experiences with PSU Campus Public Safety and safety on campus. Recommended by the Reimagine Campus Public Safety Committee, the survey aims to inform CPSO's safety practices and policies. Results will be shared publicly in the fall, potentially influencing safety improvements on campus. Act now to participate before the survey closes on May 24.

PSU welcomes back Audrey Luna, Metropolitan Opera star
|
Metropolitan Opera star Audrey Luna is renowned for having sung the highest note ever sung in the Metropolitan Opera, and she is a PSU alumna returning to her roots this weekend to present a concert on Sunday, followed by a master class Monday. Read more about her rise to fame and her particular interest in modern music pieces at her website. Tickets are free for PSU students and $20 general admission.

The Learning Center is all geared up to help students succeed during midterms with coaching and tutoring. They also support faculty and staff with their ROADS to Success presentation.

Tell students about the Summer Research Academy (SRA) through the Center for Internship, Mentoring and Research (CIMR). It’s a 3-day event with panels and workshops for students interested in research. Applications open now through May 19.

Wine club features PSU alumni |
Vikings on the Vine is the only wine club with a PSU connection. The PSU Alumni Association’s wine club features all alumni-affiliated wineries in each of the two shipments per year. The spring shipment features wines from Bellingar Estates, founded by Kim Bellingar MBA ’13 and STEDT Wines, founded by Chris Lubberstedt ’99.

Play Women’s+ Pickup Basketball on Tuesday, May 7 from 6-7 p.m. on the MAC Court. Geared toward women, non-binary and trans folks. Free for all students and Rec Center members; $7 for guests and faculty/staff. This is a nonbinary and trans-inclusive space, everyone is welcome.

Join the Rose City Riveters for Night at the Thorns as the Portland Thorns women’s professional soccer team takes on its biggest rival: Seattle Reign! The match is at Providence Park on Saturday, May 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets are only $15 each. Limit of 2 tickets per Campus Rec member. Tickets are on sale now at Member Services.

Chris Shortell, professor of political science, talked with the Oregonian about the gas tax on Portland’s May ballot; Marisa Zapata, director of PSU’s Homelessness Research and Action Collaborative (HRAC) and associate professor of land use planning, spoke with the Portland Mercury about the impacts of a new city rule regulating homeless camping; Associate Professor of Geography Paul Loikith, also director of the PSU Climate Science Lab, shared insight into what students are learning about climate change with Axios; and Assistant Director of HRAC Jacen Greene discussed a new study examining alternative shelter options for those experiencing homelessness with KGW.
