Hebrew College JTFGB Teens Award 2024 Grants
“JTFGB (Hebrew College Jewish Teen Foundation of Greater Boston) created an environment of thoughtful people with diverse perspectives and opinions. I found peers with the same zeal for social justice that I possess, and everyone proves, year after year, that the passion behind JTFGB’s Jewish values can indeed impact people around the world.”
— Ellie Gish, JTFGB student
On May 19, JTFGB held their ninth annual grant ceremony, awarding over $21,000 of grants to Tenufa Bakehila, an Israeli nonprofit that repairs and renovates homes for Israel’s poorest and most vulnerable citizens, ELEM: Youth in Distress Israel, and Kyle Cares, focusing on teen mental health.

The event kicked off with an energetic and moving musical performance by JTFGB student Ethan Warhaftig.

Proclaiming Release: Why We Need a Jubilee
By Ilana Zietman `19, Senior Rabbi at GatherDC
My two-year-old is starting to use new words at an overwhelmingly rapid pace... The other day, though, he declared something that made me pause: “Mine!” I wondered how he had already internalized the concept of personal property, and to my surprise, immediately started to worry that he was going to develop a problematic relationship with things (and the people who have things he wants) if I didn’t intervene fast. On the one hand, the idea of ownership allows my son to claim autonomy and experiment with independence in a world that is largely controlled by the adults in his life. But on the other hand, my kiddo already needs to understand that ownership comes with limits and responsibilities.
