| Greetings from the Director
| |
I hope you had a healthy and happy New Year! Last October, the Yale community enthusiastically launched For Humanity, Yale’s $7 billion comprehensive campaign, which seeks to address many of the world’s complex challenges by investing in the areas where the university can make a meaningful impact. In this issue, you will hear from one of the campaign’s co-chairs, Randy Nelson ’85, P’13, P’16, P’18, who is also a veteran reunion gift co-chair. His inspiring words provide an important reminder of the vital role each of you have as a reunion gift committee volunteer.
Last month, Senior Director for Engagement and Campaign Initiatives Lynn Andrewsen ’82 kicked off a conversation about philanthropy and service to Yale with For Humanity campaign committee volunteers Thomas Barry ’66 and Parminder Singh ’06. Our reunion giving speaker series will continue this semester to give you a closer look at Yale:
- January 19, 2022 - David Wilkinson, Executive Director, Tobin Center for Economic Policy, and Steven Berry, David Swensen Professor of Economics and Jeffrey Talpins Faculty Director of the Tobin Center for Economic Policy
- February 15, 2022 - Alison Cole ’99, Senior Associate Dean for Development, External Affairs, and Special Projects, Yale College
- March 16, 2022 - Garth Ross, Executive Director, Yale Schwarzman Center
Happy New Year!

| On October 2, 2021, Yale celebrated the launch of the For Humanity campaign in a first-of-its-kind experience. Due to the pandemic, the entire event was virtual, allowing every single member of the Yale community to have the opportunity to participate from around the globe. In an inspiring call to action, President Salovey asked “what is Yale for?” You can hear more from him, the For Humanity co-chairs, faculty members, and from students and alumni at the campaign launch website.

Randy has held a number of volunteer leadership positions across the university, including as a six-time reunion gift committee co-chair, Alumni Fund Board chair, and co-chair of the recently-launched For Humanity campaign. We asked him to share his thoughts about fundraising for Yale over the years.
Growing up, did you have conversations about philanthropy, and were there any expectations to give back?
