How Does Your Mask Stack Up?
As new cases of the more contagious U.K. variant of the virus are reported, it’s more important than ever to follow our health protocols. Masking is one of the most effective ways we can protect each other from transmission. But not all masks are created equal. Here are some recommendations from the CDC.
Your mask should:
1. Have two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric (a tight-weave cotton material is best)
2. Completely cover your nose and mouth and secure under your chin
3. Fit snugly against the sides of your face without any gaps
4. Allow you to breathe easily and stay on comfortably without readjustment
Your mask should NOT:
1. Be made with fabrics that make it hard to breathe, such as vinyl
2. Fall off your nose when you talk or have gaps around the side of your face
3. Have valves or vents that allow particles to escape
