NAM Medical Student Awards

Congratulations to the Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Class of 2024! The Nashville Academy of Medicine presents two prestigious medical student awards: the Dr. Dorothy Lavinia Brown Award and the Dr.Tom Nesbitt Award.
The Dr. Dorothy Lavinia Brown Award recognizes outstanding medical leadership, education, and civic involvement. The 2024 recipient, Kadija Salifu, has demonstrated exemplary character and leadership through active participation in NAM as well as involvement in various other organizations.
The Dr. Tom Nesbitt Award acknowledges achievement in education, socio-economic, and legislative affairs. Daniel Ragheb, the 2024 recipient, has shown exceptional dedication to NAM and Vanderbilt, holding leadership positions and contributing significantly to medical student organizations.
Both awardees exemplify the Nashville Academy of Medicine's values and commitment to fostering future physicians.

2024 TMA Legislative Summary is Available Now!

The Tennessee General Assembly adjourned on April 25, 2024, ending a session that included significant gains for organized medicine. TMA and the House of Medicine passed all of its legislative priorities, including protecting physicians from assault in the workplace, stabilizing practice revenue during recoupment periods, improving efficiency of the collaborative relationship with physician assistants, and enabling physicians to seek out treatment for burnout without fear of professional retribution.

New Laws Effective Immediately and July 1
