| AUTO TECH LEADS ORANGE COUNTY IN NEW DEALERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS
The Cypress College Automotive Technology program once again leads all Orange County community colleges in the number of students receiving scholarship awards from the California New Dealers Association. The Association granted 42 scholarships. Cypress College students took home 26 of the awards, representing over 60% of the total granted. Individual scholarships ranged from $4000 to $1,000 each. Congratulations to the Automotive Technology program for its ongoing excellence.

| STEM SUMMER: CSU FULLERTON RESEARCH SCHOLARS
13 Cypress College STEM Scholars participated in the Summer Research Symposium at CSU Fullerton, which took place on Friday, August 7th. Each was awarded $5,000 for completing their projects. | PRIZED PHOTOGRAPHY: OC FAIR
Three Cypress College students took home photography prizes at the OC Fair this summer. Cristina Gutierrez received seven total awards, including a Division win, two 1st Prize wins, two Honorable Mentions, one Juror’s Choice, and one Staff Award; Mika Shoji, 1st Prize win and two Honorable Mentions; and Raul Gonzalez, with two 2nd Prize wins. This year’s visual arts category was especially notable in that the number of entries was the largest on record - 6,600 total; with a total of 30% accepted into the contest. | LEGACY PROGRAM REVAMP
Under the leadership of Cypress College Sociology Progessor Regina Rhymes, the Legacy Program has undergone a revamp. Established in 2000, Legacy was the first community college program in Orange County to concentrate on Black Studies. Legacy students receive indivdual instruction and counseling, intensive writing seminars, university trips, and transfer guidance. Artists on Edge On View: Sep 10th - Oct 8th A group show of contemporary art curated by Matt Gleason. The exhibit centers on the work and influence of the late Chris Burden who passed away earlier this year at the age of 69. Gleason posits that Burden's penchant for finding the edge of every medium he touched was where his greatest influence occurred. On display will be historic works by Burden and nine contemporary artists. more
