Good Evening,
From the Reading Pile: A radio broadcaster’s guide to license renewal. (If you manage or own a radio station, please read this!)
From the Reading Pile: Cousins locked in nasty fight over legendary Hoosier Lester Sumrall's religious empire.
I'm trying to confirm which station was the first stereo station in Indiana. If you have any recollection of this, please e-mail me.
Before we get to our news roundup, I wanted to pass along a death in Indiana radio. Scott Wayman worked for over two decades at Mid-America Radio Group's Country/WCBK (102.3fm, Martinsville), mostly in morning drive. Mr. Wayman was only 57 when he died Tuesday in Martinsville.
Visitation will be Friday May 31 from 5pm until 8pm at Eastview Christian Church, 2745 Old Morgantown Road, Martinsville, Indiana 46151. Visitation will also be Saturday morning June 1 from 9am until 10am at Eastview Christian Church, with the service beginning at 10am. Here's the complete obituary.

Update, now the price tag: Adams Radio Group announced they will sell Oldies/WLYV (1450am, Fort Wayne) and FM translator W282CH (104.3fm, Fort Wayne) to Brian Walsh for $200,000. Mr. Walsh owns Oldies/WIOE (101.1fm, South Whitley). No LMA on this deal, and we will share the sale price once the deal gets filed with the FCC. WLYV is a 1kW AM station with their tower site near South Anthony Boulevard and Hayden Street, along the railroad tracks, just southeast of downtown Fort Wayne. W282CH is a 250 watt FM translator, and their antenna is on the Cass Street tower, just north of West State Boulevard and Wells Street, near downtown Fort Wayne. Finally, Kalil & Co., Inc. served as exclusive broker for this sale.
Quincy Media's ABC affiliate/WPTA-TV (Channel 21, Fort Wayne) meteorologists John Burchfield and Caleb Chevalier both exit. Mr. Burchfield will soon join WTOL-TV in Toledo, Ohio, as their weekday morning meteorologist. Mr. Chevalier will remain with ABC 21 until mid-June, and hasn't yet announced the next stop on his career path.
ABC 21 recently named two successors: Nikki Pietrus and Payton Domschke. A meteorologist, Ms. Pietrus interned at both WGN-TV in Chicago and WLFI-TV (Channel 18, Lafayette). Ms. Pietrus will be on-air weekend mornings.
