Central Labor Council and United Way Team Up to Provide Relief for Working Families
United Way of the Capital Region and organized labor have worked together for more than 75 years.
Continuing this tradition, the Harrisburg Region Central Labor Council (CLC) and United Way recently held three projects to address the basic needs of local working families.
In February, labor volunteers gathered at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to learn how to cook nutritious meals on a budget. The meals they prepared were then donated to food bank clients.
On Saturday, March 10 labor volunteers distributed 800 flyers with information on hunger assistance to patrons of the Broad Street Market in Harrisburg.
The CLC and United Way are also working with teachers at local Head Start schools to provide socks and undergarments for students whose families struggle to make ends meet. From January through February, local unions and community partners donated more than $1,000 worth of undergarments and socks to Head Start.
These projects will continue throughout the year with plans to add even more initiatives in the near future.
