March 15 - Update for families about COVID-19

March 15, 2020
Good evening Roseville Area Schools families,
Earlier today, Governor Tim Walz closed all public schools beginning this Wednesday through Friday, March 27. We have already canceled school for Monday and Tuesday, so this means that the earliest date students would report to school is Monday, March 30.
  • Distance learning: This closure allows us to create a robust plan for distance learning, in case the state closes schools for a longer period of time. In the coming days we will share information about how we will provide e-learning or distance learning services to all students.
  • Meals: School meals are a vital source of nutrition for many students. We are committed to providing meals to students during this school closure. Expect details about this in the coming days.
  • Child care: The governor has asked schools to provide care for elementary-age children of health care professionals, first responders, and other emergency workers beginning Wednesday, March 18, to ensure Minnesota’s first line of defense against COVID-19 can stay on the job. If are a health care professional, first responder or other emergency-related worker and you need childcare, please complete this survey at your earliest opportunity.
  • Activities/Athletic events: All student activities and athletic events, including practices, are canceled.
We understand that closing schools causes strain, stress and inconvenience in our community. Public health officials tell us that as a state and country, we're moving from a containment phase to a community mitigation phase. Implementing strategies to slow transmission is done to protect individuals at increased risk and to support healthcare and critical infrastructure workforces.
Remember that during times like these, social media can become a space where facts are difficult to separate from rumors and misinformation. Please be critical of information you may hear that does not come from a trusted official source, like the district itself or state agencies. We remain committed to keeping families and staff up-to-date with accurate and timely information as often as possible during these rapidly changing and unprecedented times. Please continue to check isd623.org/coronavirus for updates, resources and information for students, staff and families.
Warm regards,
Aldo Sicoli
Superintendent
