Dr. John Finan '87 will continue to serve as Fenwick High School's principal through at least the 2030-2031 school year. The Fenwick graduate was named principal in 2023 after sixteen years in leadership roles at Glenbrook High School District 225.

“Returning to Fenwick has been a tremendous honor and source of pride for me,” said Finan, an Oak Park native who holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership. “The Fenwick family has my firm commitment, loyalty and focus on continuous improvement.”

Finan has been an educator for 35 years, including more than a decade teaching at the college level. He graduated from Fenwick in 1987, joining his father and three brothers as proud Friar graduates.

“I truly enjoy celebrating the successes of our outstanding students,” said Finan, a world language teacher who founded a school community group for Spanish-speaking families at Fenwick. He hopes “stability and continuity” in the principal role will “position the school well for the future” as it approaches its 100th anniversary of educating students in the Dominican Catholic tradition.

“Dr. Finan demonstrates his love for Fenwick High School every day. He is extremely dedicated to our community and is committed to finishing his career here,” said Fenwick President Col. Otto Rutt, who called Finan a “stalwart leader” who “collaborates with all our great leaders to make Fenwick the best that it can be.”
Fenwick High School is owned and sponsored by the Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Albert the Great headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.
