Make Music Day Celebration 2019

Make Music is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

School of Rock Vienna is proud to once again be an official Make Music Day Veune. We will be hosting a "Rock the Lot Party" in front of the school on Friday, June 21st, from 4PM to 8PM. Come check out rockin' performances from our Rock 101, JV, and House Band Groups!

Senior Send Offs

It's so hard to say goodbye!  We are so privileged to watch these students grow both musically and as people.  Best of luck to all our graduating students - keep in touch!

Anthony Vo

Anthony has been a fantastic member of our school for about 4 years now.  We have seen him grow as a musician and person in so many ways.  He has been a steady force in every show he has done and we will miss his special sound.  Anthony will be studying Business Information Technology at Virgina Tech this fall. He will miss his guitar teachers Bobby and Dante, as they have helped him develop in the guitar player he is today.

Charley LaPlume

Our songbird Charley is leaving the nest.  Charley plans on attending Virginia Commonwealth University this fall. The best thing about SoR for her, was signing up for a show. Besides vocal lessons, where she gained so much more knowledge about different singing techniques and other stuff, being in a show was really fun because she got to work with other kids and learn from them. "I think that type of setting makes learning a little easier, as well as more exciting when you're doing it with other people."

Chessy Bollettino

Chesy is our longest running student - 13 years as a School of Rocker!  She literally started at School of Rock when it opened and has played a whopping 40 shows as a Performance Program student.  She started out on drums and vocals but soon found her heart and soul in the bass and plans to continue playing somewhere, somehow when she heads to Virginia Tech this fall.
Chessy has truly been her mom's right and left hands quietly helping behind the scenes to make all three Schools of Rock tick.  To someone just joining SOR, she says "practice a lot and know the structure of the songs you are on - it makes it a lot easier. Also don't be afraid to try new things and meet new people."
Any reflections as the "owner's kid"?
"School of Rock has been a big part of my life.  I remember running around the booth at Viva!Vienna! that first summer we opened (I think I was 5 or 6) and getting behind the drums at my first show.  It has all gone by strangely fast.  When I was younger and didn't really know what was going on, it was the older kids who made me feel better about performing and helped me learn my parts.  It's cool now that I've had that chance to be the older kid and I hope that tradition continues."

Ella Tynch

Ella joined School of Rock about 2 years ago and jumped in with both feet, growing in skill as one of our guitarists.  From her first show (Feetwood Mac) she has demonstrated dedication and focus and will be missed on stage. Ella will be attending the University of Virginia to study public policy and business. When asked about what she will most miss about School of Rock Vienna, Ella said, "Although I’ve loved playing in shows and meeting awesome people (and sharing weird wormy goodness), I think I’ll miss Arnell the most!"

Emma Whitney

Emma attended a Rock School Boot Camp in the summer of 2015 and it was immediately evident that she had that "thing".  Over her 4 years with us, she has shone not only on the stage with her soaring vocals, but as a true leader among her peers.   She is one to watch.
Emma is taking a gap year to work and explore her options with music. Her band (with fellow SORockers Will, Krissy & Vinny) Sunhead won Jammin' Java's Battle of the Bands and they are heading out on their own tour this summer.  Emma's favorite thing about school of rock is definitely the people. She feels like she got a second family and home out of it and made friendships that are going to last me a lifetime with people who get her better than anyone else. She is so grateful School of rock provided a safe place when things got rough. She is really going to miss watching new kids come through the programs. "I’ve always really enjoyed seeing new kids find out how much fun music can be."

Krissy Kaminski

Krissy was simply born to play bass.  We have literally watched this girl grow up - we think about 12 inches and btw she looks the same just taller.  She has gone from a complete novice to a professional level player over the course of her tenure.  Krissy has been a member of House Band and played countless shows across the many years.  We are delighted that she will be capping her School of Rock career by touring this summer with the School of Rock Allstars - truly an accomplishment.
Krissy will be taking a gap year to work and relax from the high school stress and then will be moving to California to go to the Musicians institute and launch her music career. Her favorite thing about School of Rock is definitely the friends she has made and the bonding experiences they have had together, like touring. "I will really miss House Band and all the gigs."

Tess Wilhelm

Tess joined School of Rock about 2 years ago and it was like a duck to water.  She is funny, friendly and a hard worker.  From her first show with us, Pink Floyd, she has pushed herself and we have seen her grow into a fine guitarist.
Tess be going to school at University of Mary Washington. Her favorite part of SoR has been learning so much music and making so many great friends. Being in the show season and learning songs inside and out has really made her listen to music in a different way. "The thing that I will miss the most about SoR is hearing the songs that they have played progress from the first week of rehearsal to the last show performance."

Tom Prince

Tom joined School of Rock Vienna just this past season and we are so glad we have gotten to know him.  He will be going on to college at West Virginia University. He is going to miss being able to come in every Wednesday to jam with the new friends that he made this past year.

Welcome to Our New SORockers!
