(Not a) Student Spotlight

Loves About Brebeuf
My general popularity amongst the student body really makes me feel at home at Brebeuf Jesuit.  It seems as though that the days dedicated to me are special and woven into the fabric of Brebeuf Jesuit. I know of no other piece of apparel that has dedicated days honoring it in a school.
Favorite Class
P.E., obviously.
Future Plans
General lounging, occasional washing, and football practice.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Apparel Folding Club
Fashion design
Apparel Against Bleach Club or AAB Club
Active Supporter of the Artificial Turf Lobby
Random Facts
I trace my heritage back to 1920s France.
I was in on the ground floor of the athleisure fashion movement.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
Have to go with Seinfeld.  George Costanza brought great notoriety to the plight of sweatpants everywhere.
What are your plans for Spring Break?
Continue to enjoy the cool weather of Indianapolis.  I once went on Spring Break (#SB12 - shoutout to my Panama City peeps), and fell victim to the relentless humidity. Needless to say, it was a soggy week.
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
I would spend time traveling to all the interesting places north of the 49th Parallel.  See previous answer about Spring Break for why.
Would you rather?
Be folded in a drawer or hung from a hanger?
Hangers make me feel classy.
Be washed in Tide or Gain?
The ultimate wash for me would be Gain Original Scent with a sprinkle of Downy Unstoppables.
Be worn inside or outside the house?
I am a busy-body myself, but after 20 years, my dad had to retire due to the constant fraying, discoloration and the hole-y nature of being worn outside.  So, I feel by staying inside, I would add a solid 10 years to my longevity.
Be worn by a wrestler after a a long match, or by the crazy uncle post-Thanksgiving dinner?
Either works for me, actually. Sweatpants are a casual variety of soft trousers intended for comfort or athletic purposes.
Scholarship/Financial Aid News and Announcements
The backbone of all financial aid is the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) which opened on October 1 at www.fafsa.gov and should be completed as soon as possible for the 2018-19 year. Many schools also require completion of the CSS Profile CSS Profile, administered by the College Board, which asks more specific questions and accesses additional funds. The FAFSA is free; the CSS Profile has a small fee.
The VAST majority of scholarships (merit aid) are found within the individual college admission/financial aid websites and academic departments. Be on the lookout for additional essays, recommendations/nominations, and deadlines for these opportunities at the colleges to which you’ve applied.
Search for a specific scholarships in Naviance Family Connection in the “Scholarship List” under the Colleges tab. Sort by Scholarship name, Deadline, or Categories. Websites such as Scholarships.com and Fastweb.com are useful as well.

Martha Hoover to Speak at Brebeuf Jesuit

Brebeuf Jesuit's Social Justice and Entrepreneurship Clubs are excited to present a special presentation by Martha Hoover, Founder and Owner of Patachou, Inc.
April 19
12:50 p.m. (PRT)
Efroymson Auditorium
As a former sex crimes prosecutor, Patachou Inc. owner Martha Hoover had excellent, if unorthodox, training for the restaurant business. Without even one day spent working in the restaurant industry, she created a successful collection of twelve establishments—Cafés Patachou, Petite Chou Bistro, Napolese Pizzeria, Public Greens, Bar One Fourteen — and newly-opened Crispy Bird, serving heritage birds that don’t look, or taste, like everyone else’s fried chicken. In 1989, Hoover used premium ingredients, prepared from scratch, and partnered with local vendors and farmers — unheard of at that time. Today, Patachou supports more Indiana family farms than all the other restaurants in Indianapolis combined.
Hoover, a four-time James Beard Award semifinalist, was recently named one of the “Most Innovative Women in Food & Drink” by Food & Wine Magazine, “Empire Builder of the Year” by Eater and profiled in Vogue. In the coming year, she plans to open two new Public Greens locations and The Box Office, a women’s co-working space.
In 2013, to better connect the company and staff to the community, Hoover created The Patachou Foundation to feed healthy meals to food insecure children in Indianapolis. The Foundation started small, adhered to smart growth strategies, and made an immediate impact; in keeping with Patachou’s 2020 vision, it is a also a radically different and radically better organization. To date, over 60,000 healthy, nutritious meals have been served by The Patachou Foundation to children in the Indianapois community who live with pervasive food insecurity.

Brebeuf Jesuit Students Attend the Kennedy/King Memorial Initiative

Brebeuf students attended the Kennedy/King Memorial Initiative which commemorated the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy’s announcement of his death to a stunned crowd in Indianapolis on April 4, 1968.
The event was held at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park and participants braved the unseasonably cold temperatures to hear from Mayor Joe Hogsett, Congresswoman Susan Brooks, and Congressman Andre Carson.
Kerry Kennedy, daughter of Robert Kennedy, provided some inspiring memories of her father and a challenge of where we need to go as a nation. Legendary civil rights activist, Congressman John Lewis, gave the keynote address and reminded the audience of the importance of understanding and learning from our shared history and moving forward based on a foundation of justice, equity, and peace.
Junior, Calyn Coleman shares that “I believe that having a once-in-a-lifetime experience as hearing from such historic leaders as John Lewis, provides me with such a great understanding and background of our history and what I need to do to help continue to fulfill those goals and legacy.”
In light of our political and social climate, let’s honor the legacies of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy by continuing to become men and women for others and move closer to the dream of true freedom and justice.
