Dear Shaughnessy members,
I am pleased to announce that at our July 2024 Board meeting, the Board of Directors approved a sand replacement project for our golf course. This decision follows extensive consultation with external experts and recommendations to the Board by the Course and Grounds Committee. Ultimately, the quality of our aging sand along with the lack of sufficient inventory to last the duration of our lease meant a decision to address the sand was necessary.
The Finance Committee reviewed and recommended funding strategies to ensure the Club could afford the project without affecting our ability to fund future capital needs. The project will be funded from new entrance fees. We will not be looking for any capital assessments from our members and this project will not impact our long-term capital reserves.
Please note that the addition of new term members is part of our strategy to maintain dues revenue needed to offset member attrition and we do not expect the addition of new term members to impact access to the tee.
The project involves the replacement of the sand on all 63 bunkers on the course, with work set to begin in late October of this year and completion anticipated by May 2025. For an in-depth look at the project's rationale, timeline, and cost estimates, Dr. Ed Bukszar, Chair of the Course and Grounds Committee, has prepared a comprehensive note for our members.
This is an exciting project, which will further improve our already amazing course. I look forward to seeing the results.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a note or ask me questions at my next Q&A session.
