Opening John Hunt Park Recreation Center

Council Member Little participated in the recent ribbon cutting festivities for the John Hunt Park Recreation Center. The 60,850 square foot facility includes a gym customizable to four high school regulation basketball courts or eight high school regulation volleyball courts as well as 25 covered pickleball courts.

Celebrating 250 Years on July 4 in Downtown

Huntsville is ready to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday on Saturday, July 4, in downtown Huntsville with a celebration that includes something for everyone. The events include historical reenactments, a downtown parade, a massive birthday cake, concerts and a dramatic fireworks finale in Big Spring Park. All events are free.

Road Resurfacing in District 2

The City Council recently approved funding for Phase 2 of the City’s road improvement plan for the 2026 fiscal year. The improvements include resurfacing and concrete work for neighborhood roads. Several streets in D2 are part of the projects. Some of those include:

Four Mile Post from Hickory Hill Lane to Whitesburg Drive
Meridian Street from Oakwood Avenue to Winchester Road
Voyager Lane from U.S. 72 to Old Gurley Road

'Inside Huntsville' Interview

Council Member Little recently sat down with host Brenda Martin on an episode of “Inside Huntsville” on HSV TV. During the interview, Council Member Little discussed his top priorities for District 2 – including road improvements, quality of life projects and ongoing infrastructure needs. He also highlighted how he stays connected with constituents, the challenges facing a growing city and key successes such as the Hands-Free Ordinance.

Honoring Legacy of Sarah Savage

Council Member Little joined Council President Jennie Robinson in presenting a resolution commemorating the retirement of Sarah Savage from the Huntsville Hospital Foundation and recognizing her profound impact as the Foundation’s President. Throughout her tenure, Savage led the Foundation to numerous record‑breaking achievements while strengthening community and philanthropic partnerships.

Supporting Popular PorchFest

Council Member Little contributed $10,000 from the District 2 Improvement Funds to PorchFest FivePoints, supporting its mission to foster community engagement, uplift local creative talent and connect Huntsville residents with music, art and mental wellness resources. PorchFest has become a favorite tradition in Huntsville and the contribution will lead to the event’s future success.

Sneak Peek at Ditto Landing Event Center

Council Member Little recently toured the construction site of the new event center at Ditto Landing with Executive Director Brandi Quick. The facility along the Tennessee River will have space for restaurants as well as indoor and outdoor events. Construction is expected to be completed later this year. The City recently approved a contract to build a 450-space surface parking lot to accommodate the facility.

City Leaders, Huntsville Schools Collaborate

The City Council and Huntsville City Schools (HCS) held a joint session June 1 to discuss collaboration between the City and the school system as Huntsville’s population continues to grow. Topics discussed at the meeting included the City's annual study on demographics and population growth trends, the HCS capital plan and a proposed tax increment financing (TIF) district.

Park and Recreation Month Means Fun

Nationally, July is Park and Recreation Month. In Huntsville, that translates to mean lots of fun. The City’s Parks & Recreation Department will roll out a series of popular family activities sure to make the summer’s highlight reel, culminating with Light Up the Night in Big Spring Park on Friday, July 31.

After School Bash Helps Teachers, Students

Council Member Little attended the annual After School Bash, hosted by the Huntsville Police Department (HPD), Free 2 Teach and Huntsville Parks & Recreation. HPD collected school supplies to help teachers equip students in the classroom while the event kicked the summer off with live music, food trucks, an HPD demonstration zone, bounce castles and local vendors.
