For us, the best part of chairing the Linguistics department is when we succeed in our requests for support – whether that means funds or opportunities that can support our students and faculty, or simply improving any aspect of the department, its operations and goals, and our community.

New Arrivals & Developments
|

Dr. Tracy Conner joins us from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Northwestern University to lead our program in Speech-Language Sciences & Disorders.

Dr. Jessica Ivani joins us from the Universität Zürich in Switzerland. Dr. Ivani earned her Ph.D. in 2017 from the Università Pavia in Italy before holding postdoctoral positions at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in Germany and her current postdoc in Switzerland.

Professor Argyro Katsika, a world-renowned scholar of speech prosody, which encompasses a wide array of linguistic features such as timing, constituency, intonation, and prominence, has been tenured.

Professor Lina Hou, an internationally recognized specialist in sign language linguistics, language documentation, language acquisition, and language socialization, has been tenured.

We are also excited to welcome three new graduate students, Yanira Donaire, Liisa Komissarov, and
Muriel Ammon to the department this year.

| Dr. Kennedy was recently honored with a distinguished teaching award. We would like to congratulate Dr. Kennedy on this wonderful achievement and showcase his accomplishments!
