While the new first day is September 8, 2020, not all students will begin at the same time.  While all students will begin the year learning remotely, a staggered start will be implemented.  Please see the schedule below to determine when your student will officially begin school. 

 Students with the last name beginning with A to L will attend remote learning on:
9/8/20-1st Day
9/9/20-2nd Day
Students with the last name beginning with M to Z will attend remote learning on:
9/10/20-1st Day
9/11/20-2nd Day

9/14/20 - All Students will attend remote learning

Great news!  Starting September 8,  our virtual learning feeding program will provide breakfast and lunch meals at no cost to any child 18 years and younger, Monday – Friday from 40 Colonial buses in designated stops throughout the District.  We will not be operating any drive-thru sites.

Governor John Carney has announced options for parents and guardians who must return to work while their child(ren) are at home for remote learning. The State is working with districts and charter schools, licensed child care providers, and other organizations to create additional school-age child care options for children 12 and under who need a place to go during the day for remote learning. While care is open to any parent/guardian needing it, those who can stay at home with their child during remote learning or can make alternate care plans are encouraged to do so.


Additional Child Care Capacity
The following child care options are available to parents/guardians for school-age children.

• Licensed child care homes and centers have additional capacity to serve school-age children. You can find a site near you at this link. Parents/guardians will need to contact these child care centers and homes to inquire about open seats.

• Existing camps will be allowed to continue operations through the end of October. If a child attended a camp this summer, families may wish to contact the camp to see if it is continuing operation.

Additional Information for Families

Parents/guardians can also visit the new My Child DE site to learn about programs in their geographic area. For information about program costs, families should contact providers or POC directly at 1-866-843-7212.

The Colonial Family is waiting to collect more information from the DIAA meeting next Thursday, September 10th so we can provide you with proper, up-to-date information about athletics for the 2020-2021 school year.  

 William Penn's Athletic Director, Matt Sabol, would like to begin meeting with all interested athletes from grades 9-12 starting next Thursday, Sept 10th to provide student athletes with information and answer any questions they may have.  He will begin with the fall sports teams.  For times and links to these zoom meetings, please refer to www.colonialssports.com

Colonial administrators, teachers, and staff ended two weeks of professional development by coming together virtually for one last time to motivate and inspire each other to do the very best for students on Tuesday when the new school year begins, despite COVID-19 and the challenges it brings to educating students. Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Menzer told more than 100 participants, “I believe each and every one of you is a leader in this district, and each and every one of you has the ability to tell the story of the Power of WE. You have to trust me and believe that you’re going to create a moment that will live forever on Tuesday.  It doesn't matter who you are or what you do, but you’re going to create a moment that no one is ever going to forget.”

For the first time, the Delaware Department of Education is sponsoring the ESPY awards, that’s Educational Support Professionals of the Year. Much like the Teacher of the Year awards program, ESPY will recognize those other than classroom teachers who do outstanding work in school districts. Winners were nominated by their peers and members of the community. Each winner will receive an award, and one will be chosen to represent the district.  Our district winner will go on to the state ESPY awards program with hopes of being named that Delaware ESPY winner of the year!
