Event Spotlight
Freedom of Press & Human Rights in Tajikistan
Thursday, April 25 at 12 p.m.
Mr. Firuz Baratov is a Fulbright Scholar at Brooklyn Law School, conducting research on Media Law. From 2011 to 2014, he implemented three youth journalism projects with the active participation of teachers and students in Tajikistan. He also managed the regional media project “Contributing to stability and peace in Central Asia through media literacy, improved reporting, and regional cooperation” in Tajikistan, funded by the European Union, and implemented by Internews.

Join ONIF for this intriguing lecture on freedom of the press and human rights issues in Tajikistan. Lunch will be served!

All or Multiple Disciplines
CivicSpark Fellow- Deadline: June 1.  A Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity for local governments in California to address community resilience issues such as climate change, water resource management, and access to opportunities. Each year, CivicSpark hires 90 Fellows to implement targeted projects to support local governments throughout California. Fellows serve for an 11-month period of time, and must complete a minimum of 1700 hours during that time period (equivalent to working ~38-42 hours per week).

Prospanica Foundation’s Scholarships- Deadline: May 27. Prospanica – The Association of Hispanic Professionals – is here to help you grow personally and professionally. Prospanica Foundation’s Scholarships are designed for undergraduate and graduate students who want to achieve their full educational potential and make meaningful contributions to society. They have a select number of Prospanica Foundation’s Scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. Applicants to the Prospanica Scholarship Program must:
  • be a United States citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • be of Hispanic/Latino heritage.
  • have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) OR have a minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) in combination with two years of full-time work experience.
  • have a Prospanica membership - Member ID required. 
  • be enrolled or planning to enroll in a Master's Degree or undergraduate program in an accredited university business school (in the United States or Puerto Rico).  If applying for the undergraduate awards, the applicant must currently be a sophomore or higher.

LMU Internal Scholarships- Deadline: Varies, late April. Loyola Marymount University acknowledges its gratitude to the many benefactors who have contributed scholarship funds to the university. Thanks to their generous donations, the Financial Aid Office is privileged to offer numerous leadership, merit and/ or need-based scholarship opportunities to LMU students.
