September: The College of Health Sciences hosted a Medical Missions Fair, where students learned about medical mission trips to Malawi, Guatemala and Honduras; what it's like to participate in a medical mission experience; and more about ways to make a meaningful difference through healthcare service. In addition, the Pre-PT/PT Club had its first meeting of the semester in September.
October: The Student Dietetics Association had its first meeting of the school year.
The college hosted a breakout session during the Illuminate: Working With Purpose conference on Oct. 1. The session — "Artificial Intelligence and Healthcare - a Challenge to Christian Ethics?" featured guest speaker Dr. John Beyer, professor of psychiatry at the Medical College of Virginia/VCU Health in Richmond and vice chair for the Department of Psychiatry, as well as medical director of the Behavioral Health Clinics; and CoHS faculty Matt Stiedl, Meagan Spencer and Jenna Sissom.
On Oct. 9, the college hosted a Health Sciences Fair, which is designed for medical schools, PA programs, PT programs, optometry schools, Nurse Practitioner programs and other healthcare-related programs, to recruit Lipscomb students who would like to pursue careers in the health sciences that require master's or doctoral degrees.
The Communication Science Disorders program will host an information session about the new program on Oct. 21.
On Oct. 22, the College of Health Sciences Speaker Series offers its first program of the school year featuring leaders from the college. Stiedl, associate professor in the School of Physician Assistant Studies, will speak on "AI in Healthcare: Transforming the Clinical Experience." This is a five-part speaker series during which leaders from the college will share their expertise on the revolutionary intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare delivery. This exclusive series will explore how AI is enhancing clinical decision-making, improving patient outcomes, and reshaping the future of healthcare education.
November: Activities for the month include the Pre-PA Club meeting on Nov. 14 and participating in Bisons Weekend activities Nov. 14-15.
