The Rising Tide of Anxiety

BY LINDSEY ERVIN, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SERVICES COORDINATOR

We don’t have to look far to find evidence of rising anxiety among high school students.
You may not have to look farther than your own living room. What’s a parent to do? Leaning into your teen’s anxiety can be uncomfortable and scary.
If you missed Mrs. Ervin's special message yesterday, following the death of two students at Arapahoe High School, you can find it here.
Please mark your calendar and watch for more details about two upcoming Valor events:
Tuesday, October 30, 7:00–8:00 pm — A parent seminar with Dr. Tim Elmore, exploring the fine line between excellence and obsession. Under the pressure of high expectations, how can our sons and daughters make healthy progress through their teenage years?
Saturday, November 10, 9:00 am–12:00 pm — A parent summit on student mental health that includes a variety of local experts. Choose from several sessions on topics such as stress and resilience, addiction, mental health in sports performance, healthy lifestyle habits, and more.

Modified Schedules and PSAT Testing This Week

Classes start at 8:05 am on Monday, October 8 and Tuesday, October 9 with modified schedules
On Wednesday, October 10, all 9th, 10th and 11th grade students will arrive at the nromal start time of 7:40 am to take the PSAT. Students are required to bring a calculator and #2 pencils, while snacks and water are encouraged. Testing will conclude at 11:30 am and students will be dismissed for fall break. Results from this testing will be available online in mid-December.

Stay Up to Date

Parents, be sure to check our Parents' Home Page, where we are adding new information there all the time, including links to key apps like Schoology and Magnus Health, links to past Weekly's, key dates and more. Email us if you have ideas about other must-have content!

Need to Earn Discovery Hours?

We need students to help set up tables at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, Oct 9 in both gyms for PSAT testing the next day. Students will earn a minimum of 1 hour of service for this event, and it should go no later than 9:30 pm. Please have your student stop by the counseling office and sign up if they would like to take advantage of this opportunity.

Help Needed for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Lunch

The parent community is planning a catered meal to celebrate our amazing staff and faculty on Thursday, October 18. There are many ways to get involved to help make this a great event:
