Take your annual security awareness training to be prepared for cyber threats |
Every year, Radford University’s Information Technology Services (IT) provides security awareness training to staff and faculty as part of efforts to help keep everyone informed and prepared for cyber threats. One of the most common – and dangerous – attack methods remains phishing. These attacks often start with a seemingly harmless e-mail and end with stolen credentials, financial loss or compromised data. The security awareness training is intended to help you identify and respond to these threats before they cause harm. This training is not just a checkbox – it’s a frontline defense in protecting our people and our data.
A recent example highlights the stakes: just two weeks ago, we had two connected phishing incidents that resulted in multiple phishing e-mails being sent from a compromised Radford University e-mail account in the middle of the night. Multiple people were affected. Fortunately, no financial or data impact occurred, but it could have been much worse. This kind of incident demonstrates what is at risk and what security awareness training is intended to prevent.
The security awareness training only takes about an hour and is designed to be relevant to real-world threats. You’ll learn how to spot suspicious messages, verify senders and respond appropriately when something doesn’t seem right. Cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility, and by completing your training, you help build a safer workplace for all. Don’t let the next phishing attack be your wake-up call.
