CLASS NOTES
Recent accomplishments of fellow Toros.
Dr. Khaleah Bradshaw (BA ‘09/MA ’20) was appointed to the position of City Clerk for the City of Carson. In her previous role, she served as the director of local government and community relations at CSUDH. She will now be responsible for overseeing a number of responsibilities within her office, including conducting municipal elections, posting and publishing public notices, overseeing updates to the Carson Municipal Code, processing public record act requests, and managing official city records.
Isaac Osae-Brown (MA ’14) is raising autism awareness through a children’s book he wrote, My Name Is Zuma: A Story About Autism. Osae-Brown is an education specialist teaching at Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif., and wrote the book with the goal of helping people of all ages understand autism.  The book is intended to better support the population of autistic children through their peers and provide full inclusion, so they can better succeed in the school system.
Zantino Bustos (BA ’18) is living out his dream as a professional dancer. When the pandemic struck, Bustos lost a lead role in a theatre show created by model/entrepreneur Tyra Banks. While seeking out other artistic forms of expression, amid rising social injustice in the country, he started Colors Only, a new venture focused on activism. Blending poetry, artwork, and erotic photography, it celebrates adult women of color of all ages, shapes, and sizes.
Keith Kauffman (MA ’97) retired as Chief of Redondo Beach Police on Feb. 28, 2022. In his 30 years in law enforcement, Kauffman worked to change the culture of policing to allow citizens to feel that officers are part of the community. While working at Hawthorne Police Department, Kauffman co-created the city’s Coffee with a Cop program, which has become very popular among departments across 50 states and in 15 countries. In Redondo, Kauffman started hosting surf and skate contests, joining police officers with residents’ teams, in an effort to break down barriers and make police officers more approachable to citizens.
Mark Lorenzen (MPA ’10) was appointed as the next Fire Chief of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District. Prior to his appointment, Lorenzen retired from the Ventura County Fire Department after a 30-year career. Lorenzen began his service with Menlo Park on Feb. 7, 2022.
James Reeves (BA ’77/MA ‘88) has been named vice president for business and finance at Napa Valley College. Reeves has more than 30 years of experience at several institutions, as a faculty member, department chair, dean of students, vice president, chief financial officer, chief operating officer, and interim president. Most recently, he was vice president for administrative services at Los Angeles City College. James’ specialized expertise in cost management, project management and improving operating effectiveness is paramount in achieving maximum efficiency at Napa Valley College.
IN MEMORIAM
Dr. Rudolph Vanterpool passed away on Feb. 6, 2022. He was a vital member and chair of the Philosophy Department, and he received the Outstanding Professor Award in 1999.
