2024 Development Review
The City of Huntsville’s 2024 Development Review highlights strong, sustained growth in both residential construction and commercial development across the city. For the eighth consecutive year, the approval of single-family home lots exceeded historical averages. Notably, the City has approved over 1,000 single-family residential lots for the third year in a row, reinforcing the ongoing demand for housing and signaling a thriving local real estate market.

MPO Meetings
The Huntsville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) invites public feedback on improving local transportation. Attend one of three community meetings in February to share ideas for the 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan. The open house format allows attendees to come and go at their convenience during the scheduled times.

Meeting at Governors Bend
Council Member David Little joined constituents from the Governors Bend Property Owners Association for their annual meeting at the Huntsville Madison County Public Library’s downtown location. The meeting provided an opportunity for residents to voice concerns and ask questions about winter weather preparedness, roadwork updates and the improvements made throughout District 2 over the past year. Council Member Little engaged with the community, addressing their inquiries and discussing plans for continued growth and development in the district. Lock, Secure, Protect
The Huntsville Police Department’s Lock, Secure, Protect initiative encourages proactive steps to reduce vehicle and firearm theft. By locking vehicles, removing valuables and securely storing firearms, residents can help keep Huntsville safer. West Precinct Commander Cpt. Chapman Middle Celebrates Conservation
Green Team teamed up with the Huntsville Botanical Garden to host over 100 sixth-graders from Chapman Middle School for an engaging day of conservation. The students explored topics like composting, biomimicry, the waste stream and the interconnectedness of different species. It was an inspiring day filled with insightful questions and hands-on learning, sparking a deeper appreciation for environmental stewardship.
Civic Engagement Academy
Huntsville residents eager to make a positive impact and learn more about city government are invited to apply for the Civic Engagement Academy’s spring 2025 session. This free, eight-week program offers a unique blend of classroom instruction and interactive activities, providing participants with the tools and insights needed to actively engage in their community and deepen their understanding of civic involvement.

Block Grants Awarded 
The City of Huntsville is set to award grant funding to eight local organizations through a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program. Recently approved by the City Council, these Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds will be distributed by the City’s Community Development Office to support initiatives that benefit low-income and disadvantaged communities, helping to uplift and strengthen Huntsville's most vulnerable populations.
