Owl Spotlight
Senior Asia Lacey has a lot going on. Not only is she on student council, on the dance committee, and a member of the National Honor Society, but she also plays volleyball and beach volleyball. She has excelled in the BioMedical pathway, with hopes to one day be a pediatrician or a therapist. She is a big fan of her English teacher, Ms. Phillips who she says is so chill and cool. "She really listens to us. We are analyzing poetry right now and she wants us to get it, and that's what I love about her," Asia says. She has gotten into a ton of colleges already, including Xavier University, the University of Arizona, and ASU. She is destined for greatness and, while we'll be sad to see her go, we can't wait to see what the world has in store for her.

In the Classroom
Our newest addition to the Math Department, Ms. Villafana, is a dynamic, encouraging teacher who inspires her students. Her creativity in lesson planning, as well as the use of group work and technology, have made her classroom eventful and meaningful. Her students love the variety of teaching modes she uses in the classroom, where she teaches Algebra 1, Financial Algebra, and Math Lab. Different activities include gallery walks, stations, lectures, small group work, interactive problem-solving, and much more. Ms. Villafana is active in ensuring all students feel heard, seen, and capable in the classroom and we're so happy to have her on the team!

Good Times
On Saturday, our students and families laced up their sneakers and ran (or walked or jogged) at the LAX Rock, Roll & Run, an annual tradition, sponsored by the LAX Coastal Education Foundation, which raises money for all schools in the Westchester, Playa, and Marina Del Rey areas. So many of our Academy athletes showed up, and our own WISH Academy 10th grader Louis Grover Khoury took 4th place overall in the 5K! It was a super fun day, and we raised a bunch of money for our WISH Sports programs!

Sports Superstars
Nathan Scott is a junior at WISH Academy and a captain of the WISH Academy Soccer Team where he plays as a defender. Nathan has been a driving force behind this team since his freshman year; always the loudest on the field! With their best season yet, Nathan's leadership, energy, and passion helped lead the team to a record of 10-5-2, and a second-place spot in the Ocean League. In addition to soccer, Nathan also competes on the WISH Academy Track Team where he is a star runner and long-jumper. We are looking forward to watching him crush his events this spring season.

"WISH has provided an amazing experience for both of my kids. They've had so many opportunities to particpate, connect and grow. From soccer to baseball, volleyball to Link Crew they both have found pathways to become leaders and team mates. And so much of this comes down to the amazing faculty and staff that support every kid along the way. - Mandy Atlas, parent to a WAHS 10th grade and 12th grader
