Prepare for your student’s NSC

Important information for the NSC...

We hope you are excited for your student's Texas A&M New Student Conference (NSC)! We have some helpful information as you and your student prepare. To start, your student received an email from our office with information on the vital steps they need to complete to ensure a smooth NSC experience.

Additional emails related to the NSC will be sent by our office and your student’s academic unit; please ensure your student reviews this information and completes any necessary items. You can find a copy of the emails sent by our office at: tx.ag/NSCemails.

Parking

All students receive a parking permit as a part of their NSC registration. To ensure the NSC parking permit is issued, your student will need to upload license plate information through the Applicant Information System (AIS) > NSC Parking Permit at least three business days before the NSC. It will take up to 24 hours for the parking permit to show in your student’s transport.tamu.edu account after activating it in AIS. If the permit does not show after 24 hours, please call Transportation to troubleshoot: 979.862.7275.

If your family is unsure about the car you’ll bring, use any license plate number as a placeholder. Once you have the license plate of the car you will be bringing to your student's NSC, your student can log on to transport.tamu.edu to add the vehicle and its license plate to the NSC permit and make it the primary vehicle on the NSC Parking Permit.

View the included NSC Parking Permit Lots to help plan your visit. The West Campus Garage is the most convenient option for the NSC. Upon arrival, the gates of West Campus Garage should be open, and your license plate will serve as your permit.

Check-In

Check-In is mandatory for all NSC participants and will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. in the Bethancourt Ballroom (room 2300) in the Memorial Student Center (MSC). Your student must be present for check-in. We are unable to check in your student without them physically present.

Schedule

The NSC is a collaborative effort across university departments and colleges. NSC sessions are designed to help your student prepare for class registration and your family's transition to Texas A&M. Programming will begin at 11:30 a.m. and should conclude on Day 2 around 1 p.m. Participation in the entirety of the New Student Conference by your student is required, as course registration cannot be completed without your student’s full attendance. Guest attendance in the family-track programming is highly encouraged but not required. A sample schedule of sessions can be found at tx.ag/sampleschedule.

Course Registration

Your student will register for classes at 12 p.m. on Day 2 of the NSC. You can find more information about what to expect for course registration at: What to expect for course registration during the New Student Conference.

Things to do before the NSC

There are many action items that your student must take care of before their New Student Conference. Details on some of these items can be found below, but we recommend having your student check the Registration Readiness Tab in their Howdy Portal for any holds or action items that will keep them from registering for classes at the NSC. Taking care of these prior to arrival will ensure the smoothest NSC experience. Learn more about checking registration holds by visiting the Aggie One Stop website.

Online Orientation

All incoming students are required to finish Online Orientation before their NSC. There is an optional guest track in Online Orientation. Follow the link below and follow the onscreen instructions for the guest track.

Note: Do not share the link below with your student. Your student MUST login to their student account with their NetID. Your student will have to retake the course if they login via the Family/Guest Login.

Submit Bacterial Meningitis Documents

Ensure your student uploads proof of vaccination against bacterial meningitis to MedProctor. The meningitis deficiency hold must be resolved before checking in at the NSC and registering for classes.

Tuition Rate Code Selection

If your student is a Texas resident, they must select a tuition rate code through the Howdy Portal before course registration. Learn more about tuition rate codes through the Aggie One Stop website.

Your student must complete all steps of the Aggie ID process prior to their NSC. All students are required to pick up the Aggie ID during the NSC. To ensure your student's ID is ready, they must complete the following before arrival:

Submit the Student ID Request Form
Use the link sent to their Texas A&M Gmail to upload the photo that will be printed on their Aggie ID Card. This must be submitted within 5 days of receiving the link.
They will receive a confirmation email when their photo has been approved.
Bring photo identification (Examples include driver’s license, passport card/book, previous year’s high school ID.)
Students must pick up their own ID. Families/guests are not allowed to pick up ID cards.

They can pick up their card during the NSC at the Student Services Building, Room 108.

Pick up times:

Day 1: 8-10:30 a.m. and 3:40-5 p.m.
Day 2: 1-5 p.m.
Pick-up is not available during mandatory sessions.

Your license plate will be your parking permit during the NSC. Not sure what car you’ll have at your NSC? Your student can upload thier license plate to the Transportation portal and update the plate at any time. This must be completed at least three business days prior to the NSC, otherwise your student will not have an NSC parking permit. applicant.tamu.edu

The weather may be hot or rainy during the NSC. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and walking shoes as you will be traveling around campus. Additionally, campus classrooms, meeting rooms, and auditoriums tend to be chilly, so we suggest bringing a light jacket. Don’t forget to check the weather forecast in advance, as a rain jacket or umbrella may be necessary.

The Memorial Student Center (MSC) is a living memorial and tribute to Aggies who lost their lives in wars past, present, or future. As a memorial, those entering the building are asked to remove their hats. Those walking outside are asked not to walk on the grass surrounding the facility, as a sign of respect to fallen Aggies.
