Remembering the Legendary 'Microwave' Dave
Council Member David Little joined Council Member Bill Kling in sponsoring a resolution to rename a portion of Cleveland Avenue to “Microwave Dave Way” in honor of legendary Huntsville musician Dave Gallaher, who passed away in February. The Council also approved renaming the dog park on Cleveland Avenue for Gallaher.

After School Bash Returns to Big Spring Park 
One of Huntsville’s favorite events not only provides a fun family evening but also benefits area teachers is returning on Saturday, June 6, to Big Spring Park. The After School Bash will be from 4-8 p.m. featuring bounce houses, interactive public safety demonstrations, local food trucks and vendors and live entertainment by Sipsey Falls. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations and help “Pack the Patrol Car” with school supplies that will directly benefit Huntsville-area educators through Free 2 Teach.

Concerts in the Park Start June 1
Concerts in the Park, a summer tradition in Huntsville, begin Monday, June 1, and continue for 10 weeks of live performances each Monday through Aug. 3. Showcasing an exciting lineup of local musical talent across genres including rock, country, jazz, R&B and contemporary hits, concerts will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets for seating, and leashed pets are welcome.

Meeting with Mayor's Youth Advisory Council
Council Member Little joined Mayor Battle and the Office of Multicultural Affairs Director Randy Barbour for a recent meeting with the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC). The MYAC is made up of Huntsville City high school students who come together to advise the Mayor on youth related issues, engage and collaborate with government leaders, develop leadership skills and make a positive impact in the community.

Welcoming Madison County Students to City Hall
Council Member Little recently met with students from Madison County Elementary during their field trip to City Hall to learn more about how city government works. During the visit, the students met Mayor Tommy Battle, discussed the importance of civic engagement, learned how City departments operate and see public art displays in City Hall. Council Member Little shared insight into the responsibilities of a Council Member and how Council decisions are made.

Preserving Indigenous History in Huntsville
As Historic Preservation Month in May draws to an end, the City spotlighted the rich Indigenous history in Huntsville and north Alabama. A panel discussion illuminated the value and importance today of Indigenous history. “We can’t understand a place unless we recognize all the cultures that shaped it,” said Ben Hoksbergen, Cultural Resources Manager for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.

Celebrating Exchange Students  
Council Member Little joined Council Member Jennie Robinson in recognizing and presenting certificates to the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) student participants at a recent Council meeting. The students, representing Thailand, France, and Germany, are currently attending local high schools including Bob Jones, James Clemens, Lee, and Hartselle. They were also joined by U.S. Department of State Local Coordinator Team Leaders Cindy James and Jim Powers for the presentation.

Spin & Skate Teen Jam at Stoner Park  
Lace up your skates and join the fun for the Spin & Skate Teen Jam at Stoner Park Skating Rink, 3723 Bragg St. NW. The Jam is for ages 13-18 on Saturday, June 13, from 4-7 p.m. Skaters of all skill levels are welcome. Teens can bring their own skates or take advantage of on-site rentals on a first-come, first-served basis. Those needing rentals are encouraged to arrive early. Concessions will be available for purchase from local food vendors.
