Kudos to VIGH Alumni

Late last year, JAMA published the results of a Vanderbilt-led clinical trial studying the effects of an intervention for adults with sepsis at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. The high-impact article was recognized and ranked as the best critical care publication of 2017 by The Bottom Line, a critical care research website.

This research was led by Ben Andrews, M.D., former faculty member with the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health and the Vanderbilt Department of Medicine. Dr. Andrews completed a Vanderbilt- and Fogarty International Center-supported global health fellowship at the University of Zambia School of Medicine, and then joined the Vanderbilt faculty while remaining based at the University of Zambia for five years. Currently, he serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Christ Community Health Services in Memphis, Tennessee.
