Softball: Brentwood rallies in 7th at Summit for coach Powell’s 400th win
By Charles Pulliam • Sports Editor
SPRING HILL – Down to the final pitch and final out in the top of the seventh inning Monday, Brentwood High School freshman Jessica White drew a crucial walk to plate the tying run trailing 3-2 at Williamson County rival Summit.
Avery Mason followed with a single. Maddie Mason followed with a nine-pitch battle before connecting on a ball that dropped in the five-six hole to score White and knot the contest at 3-3.
The Bruins took a 4-3 lead with two outs off that hit, and weren’t finished yet as senior Tabbi Daech sent a hard grounder to left to score two more runs as Brentwood built a 6-3 lead that stuck. Marina Mason closed out the bottom of the seventh in the circle for the regional victory and win No. 400 for Powell – another milestone in an expansive career covering 20 seasons with the past nine leading the Bruins.

Franklin alderman under fire for comments made about The Covenant School shooting
By Coleman Bomar • Staff Writer
A number of Franklin community members are calling for At-Large Alderman Gabrielle Hanson to resign after she purported unsubstantiated conspiracy theories about The Covenant School shooting in late March.
Hanson, as a guest on WWTN-FM radio Thursday afternoon and earlier last week on the Mill Creek View podcast, said that the motive behind The Covenant School shooting was a love triangle between certain staff members and the shooter. She also incorrectly asserted the locations of victims at the time of the shooting. The motive for the shooting — which ended in the deaths of three children and three adults, plus the shooter, on the morning of March 27— is still under investigation.

That’s where one of the small, specialized private schools had been open for some time, and Mills wanted an up-close and in-person look and feel of a campus and its staff and students, and just to soak up the general vibes.
She was in the interview process in the winter of 2021 to become head of school of a Fusion Academy scheduled to open in Franklin later in 2022.
