Military Family Appreciation Month: Exploring the Learning Community Archives

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) Service Members, Veterans, and their Families Technical Assistance (SMVF TA) Center is dedicated to supporting military families and caregivers by bringing awareness to their unique circumstances and sharing information and resources about programs and policies that reinforce their health and well-being. This November, as we observe Military Family Appreciation Month, we would like to take this opportunity to offer a sample of the TA Center’s learning community series archives focused on military families, caregivers, youth, and their ever-changing behavioral health needs.

The Suicide Prevention Resource Center Releases 2024 State and Territorial Suicide Prevention Needs Assessment

The Suicide Prevention Resource Center has released the results of their fourth annual assessment of suicide prevention infrastructure and capacity of U.S. states and territories, as well as a host of tools to help individuals share its key findings. You may also watch a brief video to learn how national suicide prevention partners can access and use these new materials, including how to tailor them for your audiences.

VA Awards Cooperative Agreements to Prevent Suicide

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced it will award more than $4.3 million in cooperative agreements to states and territories to help fund and provide TA to suicide mortality review committees, which aim to identify and characterize local suicide deaths to better inform Veteran suicide prevention strategies. This fiscal year’s cooperative agreements will support 10 states and 2 territories in establishing local understanding of Veteran suicide, identifying populations or locations of special concern, and informing data-informed suicide prevention strategies for Veterans.
