Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
Our Middle States Self-Study highlighted the excellent work our programs are doing to assess student learning outcomes. We also recognize that some programs wish to further develop their assessment plans, but need additional resources to explore new assessment methods. To address this need, we developed the Assessment Advancement Grants program and today, I am delighted to announce the recipients of the 2024 application phase:
- Nalin Johri, Ph.D., M.P.H., Department of Interprofessional Health Sciences and Health Administration / Master of Healthcare Administration
Project: Competency Assessment Dashboards and Essential Tables (CADET)
-
Leslie Rippon, Ph.D., Department of Athletic Training
Project: Assessing Student Engagement and Learning Outcomes During Immersive Virtual Reality Experiences
These projects were selected for their potential to enhance their assessment strategies, ensuring that we continue to provide the high quality of education and student experience that we are committed to at our institution.
Congratulations to the winners! We look forward to seeing the positive impact of their innovative work.

| 2024-25 Academies and Idea Hall Applications Due September 13 |
Apply for the Academies and Idea Hall programs to receive 1-2 years of seed funding to jumpstart new and innovative ideas. The Academies support faculty in developing interdisciplinary curricula, pursuing interdisciplinary scholarship, or pursuing projects that align with university goals, such as enhancing diversity and inclusion, increasing grant submissions, and expanding graduate programs. The Idea Hall initiative offers funding for administrators and staff to propose collaborative projects that span across multiple divisions (e.g., Finance and Academic Affairs; or Student Services and Athletics). By cultivating cross-divisional partnerships, this initiative hopes to promote innovative ideas that improve student retention, optimize use of facilities, and integrate service learning into the student experience. Visit our Innovation Hub for more details, or contact Sona Patel at innovation@shu.edu if you have any questions or would like to consult about your application.
