NEW TEACHING TOOL IN DUKEGPT
|
We’re excited to announce a new AI assistant developed by Duke Learning Innovation & Lifetime Education (LILE) now available in DukeGPT: Canvas Designer is tailored for instructors looking to build or refine their courses in Canvas. It offers support in designing module structures, organizing content layouts, and creating effective homepage designs—all informed by instructional design best practices.
You can access the Canvas Designer by logging into DukeGPT, clicking the down arrow next to the model name in the upper left corner, and selecting "Canvas Designer" from the dropdown list.
|
The Canvas platform is regularly updated with new features and changes to existing ones. These updates are shared to the Canvas Community, but we have highlighted those we think are most important to Duke users below:
|
-
IgniteAI: This summer, Canvas announced "IgniteAI" - Canvas' integrated AI function. IgniteAI is not yet available for any users, and we will announce if and when Duke decides to opt into it.
-
Cross-listing: Starting with Fall 2025 courses, permanent cross-listed course sections will be automatically cross-listed together. This means that only the ‘parent’ Canvas site will appear on an instructor's course dashboard, and students in all ‘child’ course sections will have access to the parent site. Learn more about cross-listing.
- Dyslexia-friendly fonts: All users now have the option to enable dyslexia-friendly fonts in Canvas.
-
Differentiation Tags: Differentiation Tags allow instructors to discreetly tag students based on learning needs, preferences, or academic progress.
-
Changes to Files: Update features include pagination, sorting, and streamlined selection tools to enhance usability, especially for users working with large file sets. See the release notes to learn more.
