PSU hosts premier basketball tournament this winter break |
This winter break, the PSU campus will host the Les Schwab Invitational basketball tournament. From Dec. 26-30, the Viking Pavilion will host 32 games — with some of Oregon’s top high schools facing off against Nike Elite national schools.
This tournament attracts hoops fans, NBA scouts and sports insiders eager to spot future stars. Past attendees include NBA players, college coaches and sports celebrities, making it a prime chance to see standout talent "before they were famous."
The Portland State community can use the PROMO code #PSUStaff or #PSUStudent for discounted tickets on the official tournament website. There are also special discount parking rates of $5 a day for tournament goers at Parking Structures 1 and 3.

Submit nominations for 2025 Honorary Degrees |
PSU’s honorary degrees acknowledge individuals for outstanding scholarship, artistic accomplishments or public service.
Nominees should be distinguished educators, scholars, scientists, business and community leaders, creative artists, reformers, humanitarians, public servants or philanthropists whose accomplishments are recognized as "making a difference" to society, regionally, nationally or internationally.
The deadline to submit a nomination to the Honorary Degree committee is Jan. 15, 2025.

Operational Excellence steering committee finalizes charter |
PSU employees are invited to read the project charter established by the Operational Excellence Team, made up of key campus leaders in areas including Human Resources, Finance and Marketing and Communications. The charter includes deliverables, project scope and a timeline for the initiative.
Now that the charter is established, the Work Area Teams along with MGT, the consultant selected for this project, will begin mapping workflow processes in HR, Marketing/Communications and Finance. The Work Area Teams are also tasked with developing a campus engagement plan to seek input and validation of those selections with campus stakeholders. This outreach is likely to occur in January and early February 2025.

Search opens for Vice Provost of Faculty Success |
The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) is now accepting applications for a new Vice Provost for Faculty Success (VPFS). The person in this position will lead the Academic Employee and Labor Relations Team, and will serve as a member of the Provost’s Executive Committee and the Academic Leadership Team (ALT). Applications are due by Jan. 20, 2025.

Join the Center for Internship, Mentoring, and Research (CIMR) for the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Fair. CIMR would like to see a variety of undergraduate research opportunities featured — such as labs, programs, and more — in this event. This is an opportunity to connect with undergraduate students interested in research and help them learn about ways to get involved with research.

The Center for Entrepreneurship is where PSU students can bring ideas to life. Currently, they are accepting applications to two programs that give students and recent graduates the opportunity to transform their ideas into action.
Cleantech Challenge: Focused on solving environmental and social issues, participants receive mentorship, a $1000 development grant, and compete for $3,000 in prizes.
Everyday Entrepreneur: A 10-week program to build business skills, develop a pitch, and win cash prizes.
Programming is free and open to all students! Applications close Dec. 31.
