Making strong social connections is a vital part of our overall wellbeing. Although it is important to make connections, it isn't always as easy as it always seems.
Social connections are important because they can help increase your sense of purpose and belonging, boost your happiness, improve confidence and self-worth, and reduce stress.
This week's uncommon stress relief tip this week is to take active approach to making new social connections. Some ways that you can do this include:
- attend events in the UChicago and local community
- connect with a new person in one of your classes
- extend and accept invitations
- call a friend or invite one to dinner to chat (potentially without screens 📵😉)
Remember, making social connections is tough for a lot of people, so don't be scared to put yourself out there!
There are a variety of events on-campus for students to mingle and get to know new people, such as the Better Together initiative and the Take 10 initiative.
