CONGRATULATIONS GRACE ROUDEBUSH '18!
Senior Grace Roudebush was honored during last weekend's Girls Volleyball State Championship competition as the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award Winner...Brebeuf's 2nd Winner in as many weeks!
To be nominated for this award, a student-athlete must meet a large amount criteria, and is judged based on their scholarship, mental attitude, athletic ability and leadership.
Greg VanSlambrook, Brebeuf Jesuit Principal, who nominated Grace for this award said, “Here is a student who does it all!  Grace is engaged across the board – academics, sports and activities, and community service – and her work ethic and determination to succeed and achieve are outstanding.”
Grace’s remarkable volleyball accomplishments include: Two-year starter, 2016 4A Sectional Finalist, 2017 Marion County Tournament Finalist, 2017 Sectional Champion, 2017 Regional Champion, 2017 Semi-State Champion, and captain of the 2017 team.  She finished her Brebeuf Jesuit career with 249 career digs and 1,140 assists.  She is also a two-year captain of the Team Indiana Molton Elite Volleyball Team. Along with her impact on the volleyball program, Grace is also a four-year member of the Girls Swimming and Diving Team at Brebeuf.
She is the editor of the school yearbook, president of the National Honor Society, co-leader of the Pre-Med Club, and secretary of the Timmy Club, which supports the global health initiatives of the Timmy Foundation. She is a member of the executive committee of the junior board of the Joseph Maley Foundation, which supports children with disabilities. She participates in Model UN and is a member of the Student Athletic Leadership Team, which coordinates activities, including community service, for student-athletes at Brebeuf.
Grace is involved with Special Olympics and tutoring Nora elementary school students. She is employed each summer as a lifeguard and a swim team coach. She also gives adaptive swim lessons to young people with disabilities.  She is also an IU Health Children's Clinical Research Center Intern for oncology research in a project led by Dr. Jamie Renbarger, MD, for which is worked the entire summer of 2017 and will continue to do so throughout 2018.
“Grace Roudebush embodies what it means to be a servant leader,” said Ted Hampton, Athletic Director. “Her humility, kindness, and work-ethic has produced an incredible GPA, test scores, and athletic career, but, more importantly, her classmates, teammates, and community have been transformed by her innate traits. She stands out amongst her peers and is very deserving of this coveted award.”

Loves About Brebeuf
One of my favorite things about Brebeuf is the relationships built between faculty and students. It’s really awesome to find a group of teachers that don’t mind taking extra time from their busy days to help you in any way they can. I came from the Carmel school district so this was something different for me my freshman year. Brebeuf truly has a community built like no other.
Favorite Class
There are so many to choose from! My all time favorite class has to be Freshman year english with Mrs. Huntington. Currently, I would have to say my favorite class is Intro to Entrepreneurship with Mr. VanSlambrook or Anatomy with Mrs. McCarter.
Future Plans
I hope to attend either Purdue University or Wisconsin University. I plan on majoring in Speech Pathology and plan on helping kids with this degree post-college. All my applications have been sent, so hopefully I start to hear back very soon!
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Captain of the Dance Team
Student Council
Admissions Ambassador
NHS
Guatemalan Union
Young Life
Random Facts
I share a birthday with my dog.
In the summer, I am a camp counselor at Camp Tecumseh.
I love thunderstorms.
I am an adventure seeker.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
I have so many favorites! However, I think that my all time favorite show would have to be How I Met Your Mother
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
If I could travel any place in the world, I would probably go to Europe, especially London. My aunt lived in London when I was little and I think that is what sparked my interest. When I was 3, we took a trip to London, however being so young I don't remember a single thing. I’d like to go back in order to truly explore the city.
What is your favorite part of being a member of the Dance Team?
I think one thing that most people don’t know is that dance is year-round. Our season runs from June - March and because of this, our team has gotten very close. We are more of a family than a team, which is something I really love.
What advice would you offer our Braves in the Class of 2021?
Step out of your comfort zone and don’t be afraid to try new things! Brebeuf has so many opportunities to offer, so take advantage of them! You will meet so many new people and maybe even some interests you didn’t know you have! High school goes by in a flash so make the most of it!

Important College Financial Information
The FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid - is the form all colleges ask students to file to determine what kind of financial assistance a student might be eligible for. The FAFSA opened on October 1 at www.fafsa.gov and should be completed as soon as possible.  Families can start the process now by creating a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID - one for the student and one for a parent - at www.fafsa.gov. These IDs will remain the entire time the student is in college, so it’s important to keep track of them.
Helpful Scholarship Websites
The National Center for College Costs works with students and parents to help them through the college financial aid process. Students in any grade level can find cost information for Indiana public and private colleges, figure out their Expected Family Contribution (EFC), and create a free Indiana College Costs Estimator report here.
The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is pleased to announce the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship. The scholarship provides 200 high-achieving high school and college students interested in pursuing a career in education the opportunity to earn a renewable scholarship of up to $7,500 each year for four academic years. In exchange, students agree to teach for five years at an eligible Indiana school. Students interested in applying must have a teacher complete a nomination form and upload the nomination form in their online application due by 11:59 p.m. EST on November 30, 2017.

The Educate ME HBCU College Tour provides cultural and educational experiences that inspire students to examine personal interests during the college selection process. Students have a chance to walk through academic, residential, athletic and administrative buildings, and meet with faculty, financial aid counselors, and admissions representatives to learn more about each college’s admissions policies and deadlines. Ignatian Scholars Speaker Series

The Ignatian Scholars Speaker Series continued with the third speaker of the semester on Friday, November 3, as Seema Verma, an Ignatian Scholar parent, spoke to the Scholars about the healthcare industry.

Along with speaking about her unique and fortuitous path to becoming sworn in as the 15th Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as a member of the Trump Administration, Ms. Verma spoke to the scholars about the challenges of maintaining a work/life balance and the type of attributes one needs to become successful, regardless of career path.

Ms. Verma emphasized the importance of: being a nice person who is kind to others; having a good work ethic; establishing friends and building social networks along the way; saying” yes” to opportunities that present themselves, and the value in serving one’s country, not to mention service to others. Scholars were impressed to see some of the photos showing Ms. Verma in the Oval office with President Trump and Vice President Pence, among others. It was an inspired talk, with Ignatian Scholars soaking in invaluable life and career advice from someone who has achieved the pinnacle of her profession. We want to thank Ms. Verma for taking the time out of her hectic schedule to come to Brebeuf and speak with the Ignatian Scholars.
