Student Spotlight
KRISTA GRENDZE '16 Loves about Brebeuf: I love the community at Brebeuf. I have made a lot of friends and everyone basically knows everyone here. It’s such an amazing place to be and to get a well-rounded education. I also love going on retreats. I’ve been on Kairos and I’ve led a retreat, and I think retreats are very special at Brebeuf.
Favorite Class: I really like AP Literature with Mr. Wagner and AP Studio Art with Mr. Winhusen. I’m really interested in literature and art. Plus I like reading. I have taken an art class every year and so I thought it would be cool to take a college level art class. Both are hard classes but I enjoy them a lot because you learn lots of interesting things.
Future Plans: I am not exactly sure where I am going yet but I would like to either go into art history or theatre for restoration or to be a curator. I am currently looking at small, liberal colleges because I like the small community. Brebeuf has rubbed off on me and so now I’m really interested in smaller schools because I can get to know everyone and be able to talk to teacher. I have been looking at schools such as Hanover and Carthage. Teams & Co-Curriculars: Theatre
Co-president of SAGE Random Fact: I am really good at Sudoku. Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
Brebeuf is as academically rigorous as they say because teachers expect a lot. Transitioning from a public middle school to Brebeuf was difficult because classes at Brebeuf are smaller and teachers expect more from students. Everybody here is very smart, so we are all in the same boat. Sometimes it can be difficult to keep up because of all the work you do every night. It gets easier as you get older because you get used to it and it’s great that teachers can help you during breaks and PRTs - its a great resource. The math program here is definitely challenging as well because there are so many math options.
Would you rather…
Eat pizza or ice cream as the only food for the rest of your life? I would rather eat pizza because I do not think I could give up melted cheese.
Be known for a one-hit wonder for a novel or a song? I would rather be known for a book because I like to write. Plus I don’t know how to read music so that would be a problem.
Play a superhero or villain on TV? I would rather play a Superhero because heroes are more fun. I think villains are interesting but I don’t like being mean.
Have the ability to fly or be in invisible? I would rather be invisible so I could sneak into concerts and movies, and not have to pay. Be stuck on a train or plane for 24 hours? I would rather be stuck on a train because I don’t like flying or heights. You can also move around more in a train and go to different train cars.

| Brebeuf Girls Soccer Team Recognized Nationally
The Brebeuf Jesuit Girls Soccer team has been named to the 11th Annual 2015 – 2016 MaxPreps Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. Brebeuf will be hosting a Tour of Champions ceremony tomorrow, Friday, January 29, to honor the state champions during halftime of the Boys bBsketball game versus Bishop Chatard.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the MaxPreps National Rankings. For soccer, only 20 of the country’s best are invited, and with nearly 34,000 competing varsity teams, this puts the Braves ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents.
The Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves Girls Soccer team made school history in the 2015 IHSAA Class 2A state tournament after they won their first semi-state game against Castle. Brebeuf played No. 2 Penn in their first appearance in a state championship on Saturday, October 31 and captured Brebeuf’s first-ever IHSAA title after a 2-1 victory over the previously undefeated Kingsmen.
The Braves ended its season (22-2-1) outscoring opponents 133-13 while becoming the smallest school, by enrollment, to win the IHSAA Class 2A girls soccer title. After Brebeuf’s historic year, the Girls Soccer team ranked No. 1 in the nation, No. 1 in Indiana and No. 1 in Class 2A.

The Hanover-IU group will depart campus at 7:30 a.m. and the DePauw-Purdue group at 8:30 a.m. Both groups return to school at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Congratulations to Benjamin Kallmyer '16 and the Brebeuf Robotics Team Brebeuf's Robotics Team competed in the City of Indianapolis Vex Robotic Championships on January 23-24, against 59 other high schools at the Indiana Convention Center. Benjamin Kallmyer ’16 won the Vex Robotics City of Indianapolis Design Award, which is one of the highest awards presented based on robotic design. With most high schools in attendance having large teams, Benjamin's accomplishment is that much more impressive as he represented Brebeuf as the only single student team during the Sunday tournament. Benjamin designed, built and drove the robot for the tournament. Assistance with programming however, was a team effort.
The City of Indianapolis Vex Robotic Championship is sponsored by The Mayor’s Office and Roche. The awards were presented by Indiana Mayors, Superintendents and leaders from businesses including Roche, Rolls-Royce, Eli Lilli, and Rose Hulman.

Senior Yearbook AdsSenior parents, are you looking for a special way to remember your student’s senior year? Then consider a Senior Yearbook Ad. The deadline to create and submit your senior student’s yearbook ad is Monday February 1.
Visit www.yearbookforever.com, search for Brebeuf, and then design and pay for the ad online. If you need assistance, please consider attending the parent help session this Saturday, January 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the France Stone Room.
Please note, a technical difficulty individuals may have in designing their ads is choosing pictures that are too large. If you would like to incorporate your child’s professional senior photos, please make sure the resolution is small enough to be uploaded.
