9th and 10th Grade Parent Roundtable with Melissa Miller, PhD
November 15 - 7:00-8:30 PM @ GCC

We invite all parents of 9th and 10th grade students to join our School Counselor and Psychological Consultant, Dr. Melissa Miller, along with Dean of Students Nora Bates Zale for an open-ended discussion about the developmental stages of students at these grade levels. We will meet in the MacLeish Room in the Main Building on GCC's campus (3rd floor, room C307, right near the library). Melissa will touch upon several topics and frequently asked questions that pertain to adolescents of this age bracket, and also address any questions or concerns that parents may have about their child's social-emotional development.

Geometry Students Apply Math to Real Life

Mr. Miller's Geometry class designed house models using a computer program called Sketchup. Here's Bella G's project! We'll post work by a few other students in coming editions of the Bulletin.

BEN MILLER '13 TO HELP HOST CORNUCOPIA AUCTION AS GUEST AUCTIONEER

For the second straight year our Cornucopia Auction will have a "celebrity" auctioneer, this time an alum!  Ben Miller '13 will help us host the November 12 event, with his inimitable style.
Since graduating from The Academy, Ben has been working on a Bachelor of Music in Sound Recording Technology from UMass Lowell.  In the UMass Lowell Music Department, Ben is a vocal primary and has been performing several times a semester. He is also playing soccer - including a stint that is far less impressive than it sounds on a semi-pro team; working at the campus radio station: WUML, Lowell, where he is now Chief Engineer; and has become a Studio Supervisor for the Sound Recording Technology Program. Ben fully intends to ignore his advisor's glib mantra: "I do not recommend graduating" and complete his degree this coming May. Afterward, he plans to move to New York City to become an assistant engineer at a world-class music recording studio.

Cornucopia Auction Highlight

The Cornucopia Auction committee is pleased to present the work of ceramic artist Megan Hart. Megan has donated a beautiful stoneware dish, which is part of her Red Pony Pottery series. After she studied at the Massachusetts College of Art in the 1970s, she further pursued graduate studies in England. Megan works out of her farmhouse overlooking Pumpkin Hollow in Conway.
This highly functional yet beautiful stoneware dish portrays graceful horses frolicking through fields of flowers. While the artist denies a direct connection, we cannot help but see that this graceful piece as reminiscent of the cave paintings of horses at Lascaux. The list price for this piece is $120; bidding will start at $70.

Sports Recap, Week of October 31

The Dublin School defeated the Boys Varsity Soccer team 2-1 in a River Valley Athletic League semifinal match on Sunday at Charlemont. After going down 2-0 by the half, the Aardvarks applied pressure on Dublin's side of the field for most of the second half. Aiden Brenizer scored the lone Aardvark goal. In their final game, after leading the team to the 2016 RVAL Team Sportsmanship Award, seniors Aiden, Sam Zakon-Anderson, Henry Walker-West, Tucker Boyd, and Ben Schocket-Greene all played well on both ends of the field.
The Academy's Cross-Country team battled the side of Mt. Greylock in the RVAL Championship race on Wednesday. Kyle Mayer (36th) led the way for The Academy with a time of 25:22 on the hilly 5K course.
