| NAM and TMA Condemn Threats Toward Health Care Professionals. | |
|
We condemn any and all threats, real or implied, made against physicians or any health care professionals carrying out their duties in good faith to provide information intended to protect the health of our fellow Tennesseans. Attacking these individuals or threatening them for doing their jobs is unacceptable.
During this national public health crisis, the only agenda of Tennessee physicians has been the health of Tennesseans. The best guidance we can provide to each other and to our fellow Tennesseans is based on the most current research we have — about a virus that is still relatively new to our species. Each year, there are opportunities for our members to serve in leadership capacities at the local (NAM) and state (TMA) levels. Each year in August, we do a full outreach to our membership to bring names before our local nominating committee this fall to fill upcoming positions. Details are below, or you can email Rebecca Leslie for more information.
NAM Board of Directors This appointment would be for a three-year term lasting January 2022 to December 2024. Click here to submit your name or to nominate a colleague for consideration. The NAM Board of Directors oversees the activities of the Academy. The Board's primary role is to uphold the Academy's mission and to oversee implementation of our strategic plan. The time commitment is minimal, and does not interfere with your practice, typically meeting six times per year in the evening for two hours.

| Administering of Monoclonal Antibodies to COVID-19 Positive Individuals.. | |
|
NAM is encouraging our members to see this information from the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH). They are providing information to increase awareness and encourage administering of monoclonal antibodies to COVID-19 positive individuals who meet the criteria in hopes of healing more people in Tennessee rapidly and decreasing the current pressures to hospitals.
It is preferred to be administered via IV infusion. However, it is now also authorized to be administered subcutaneously if arranging for IV infusion would delay treatment. The EUA includes the criteria for use, and appropriate storage and preparation of the mAb. Please click here or the image below for additional information.

| Student and Resident Welcome Event a Success. | |
|
At the beginning of this month, NAM welcomed medical students, residents, fellows, and attendings at a beautiful outdoor reception at Kenect Nashville. The evening fostered new connections and encouraged involvement in NAM and TMA. We were thrilled to see so many members who are excited about being involved in the profession of medicine! Below are just a few photos from the evening.

In response to the growing number of new COVID cases, the Tennessee Medical Association (TMA) has again urged all Tennesseans to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
"These vaccines are a means to protect our citizenry and greatly enhance one's ability to fend off potentially grave health implications from the Delta variant," they said. "We implore those Tennesseans who have not received a COVID vaccination to do so immediately. This simple task may be the difference between a few days of fever and fatigue versus a few weeks in the hospital, permanent disability, or even death."
Most recent data show that 96% of all new cases in Tennessee are among unvaccinated individuals and 96.9% of all COVID-19 deaths were unvaccinated individuals.
